Looks like it is suspended with four wires stretching out to the four corners of that "X" structure where the painting is attached. The wires are probably moved with servo motors at the corners, driven and coordinated by the computer.

Love the line about throwing buckets of paint and getting a creative block, hey! What about making a boxes from a creative block and selling them on to galleries, they would snap em up.

This is great! (also, it is a finally-fulfilled promise from a nether region of your old 'home' website; still waiting for 'how to do 3D printing from salvaged DEC writer parts). I had to wait to open it from my office computer though -- dial-up just ain't good enough.
