Can you use Fresca to make a Roy Rogers or is it strictly Coke?

I always thought that a Shirley Temple has orange juice as well... With the Grenadine sitting at the bottom... Like how Gonazar described it...

Dude, Grenadine is pomagranite syrup.

Any more, it's just high fructose corn syrup, water, a lot of red dye #40 and a hint of artifical cherry flavoring. Try making your own some time... It's a whole new experience.

hmmm. how could i harness the flavor of strawberries? i have cornsyrup, so it doesnt seem hard.
Aug 22, 2008. 8:16 AMERNesbitt says:
If you want to make your own strawberry syrup, take about four cups of juice from strawberries (I'd use three to three and a half cups and a half to full cup of water) and bring it to a boil. Reduce it by about half... then add maybe a cup of sugar and let it dissolve. Strawberries are much sweeter than just about any other fruit, so you may have to play with the mixture to get it right. You may not even need to add sugar. I'm just guessing at proportions based on my grenadine recipe.

For real grenadine, do the same as above, but use four cups of pomegranite juice and two cups of sugar.

Sounds vaguely like how I start flavored tobacco for my hookah...
Aug 22, 2008. 1:15 PMcowscankill says:
well is there a super simple way to get the flavor? ive blended fruit and strained it for juice, so i was thinking i can get strawberry juice and mix it with cornsyrup. that would be really easy, and good for emergency cooking situations :D oh, and my mom has made real syrup before with strawberries. th thing is she caramalized the sugar by accident, and then added strawberries. it was good though :P

lol those sound good, I always get cherry coke made with cherry syrup when I can. Yeah when I see grenadine I normally think pomegranates, but I checked and sometimes it's made with cherries.

I make my Roy Rogers with diet coke and an ounce of cherry juice concentrate. I can also make it to taste with my own mixes. Try it out. The cherry juice is hard to find but I get mine from Traverse Bay Farms www.traversebayfarms.com

i thought fresca was grapefruite flavored ?

1. Rose Grenadine isn't grenadine, it's flavored simple syrup. Neither is 99% of every other grenadine out there. Unless it's made from pomegranates, it's not grenadine. 2. The first poster mentioning the orange juice is correct. Grenadine, OJ, Ginger Ale, maraschino Cherry, Slice of Lemon. Funny enough, Grenadine originally had an alcohol content, though very small, roughly 4-5%. That is all.

O rly? i've always made my shirley temples with 2parts orange juice, one part sprite and a half part grenadine. It tastes even better and you get a wicked color mix, red on the bottom turning orange/yellow at the top. (depends on how you pour them, i think it's orange juice/sprite first then grenadine)

I'm surprised that die-it Coke didn't just explode or something, when the cherry syrup hit it. That stuff's pure poison, don't drink it.

Your sweet tooth receptors are out of whack if more than 1 tsp gets to you. I usually get it so a half inch on the bottom of the glass is grenadine before mixing it up XD
Dec 22, 2007. 4:12 AMwestfw says:
You can use ginger ale for the shirley temple too; slightly different flavor. I used to get the strangest looks from bartenders, back in my drinking days, when I decided I had had enough rum and started ordering shirley temples... :-)

Actually, that would be a Virgin Mimosa. "A Mimosa is a cocktail-like drink composed of three parts champagne and two parts thoroughly chilled orange juice" -Wikipedia My mother used to make them for me when I was a child. Very delicious!

1 tspn??? seems like not enough. I make these all the time and just pour for a couple seconds worth of grenadine.
