Running DSL(right off of the iso)

This is my first Instructable but i hope to make it as good as i can!
In here i will show you how to set up Virtual PC and how to run DSL(Damn small linux)

Step 1 Get Virtual Pc

Skip this step if you have Virtual pc installed
You can download Virtual pc Here In the Microsoft Website
Once you download it open it up and install virtual pc

i tried an when in to the iso it doesnt show up should i re-download it and try again?

Is The file There? Verify that the file is there by Opening the folder that has it ,and if the iso image is about 50MB in size it is good

i tried to mount it in Virtual pc but i couldnt find the image

Was it mounting a hardrive image? If so,You need to mount a CD image,When Virtual PC is running(You see dos text on a black backround) Click on CD,In the Menu,Then click On Capture ISO image,Then Take it to where you have the ISO,Click on that,Now restart The Virtual Machine,Go to the Virtual PC Console Window And click On close,Then Click on Ok ,Now,Click start,wait for the Dos text,And then it should start dsl,You just have to wait,Be sure to download the Iso,Any Iso That has a Linux Distribution will work,Any "Live CD"

What's windows 96? Do you mean windows 98, 95, or 98SE? or is it a beta version?

It was a beta version,I think it was called Windows Chicago,Or Memphis,I forget,Anyways Yes,it was a Beta version.

Ahh yes. Wikipedia says it was called "Nashville". Also, Chicago was the Windows 95 beta version, Memphis was windows 98, Whistler and Longhorn were going to be after XP,

well where do i open up the iso,i went to my file where i put DSL and it wont let me open the iso file

The iso is Like a .zip file but it contains the files of a CD,A CD image. Why would you want to open the iso? You can burn the ISO to a CD or Mount it in virtual PC

i have
windows 3.1 - free and legal abandonware
windows for workgroups 3.11 - free and legal and supports networking
windows 95 SP1 - free and it is probably legal supports networking but i have a problem and i was unable to connect to the internet
Windows Neptune(2000) edition - beta free and legal-never completed
windows 2000 - not exactly legal to put up but it is close to 1 GB in size
today i am uploading all of them to my server (newppg.com/recreate) its not exactly mine just that someone was kind enough to lend me some space

If I am not mistaken, there is a version of DSL that will run inside windows without installing anything special. It's called DSL embedded.
