Samsung Intensity 2 U460 LCD replacement

Hello,

I recently had the need to replace my daughter's Samsung Intensity 2 lcd screen.  Her dog chewed on the phone causing the screen to crack.  Once that happened the screen was white and useless.  I found a replacement screen for her phone on ebay for around $30. Her phone was under a 2 year contract without insurance so she was stuck with either buying a new one for big bucks or letting me try to replace her lcd.  THIS INTRUCTABLE IS TO BE USED AS A LAST RESORT. IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE ON YOUR PHONE TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A NEW ONE. IF NOT IT CAN BE FIXED YOURSELF. JUST TAKE YOUR TIME AND DON'T FORCE ANYTHING ON THE PHONE.  IT WILL COME APART FAIRLY EASY IF YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND GOOD LUCK!

Step 1: The LCD

This is what you are replacing.  You should have bought one that looks like this.  If your phone does not have an lcd like this then you may have a different phone.

Great instructions, but my locking bar came off when I was installing the new ribbon, is the blue/green tape enough to keep it in place and work or any ideas what I should do? The locking bar is still intact, just no longer attached to the phone.

Thanks for the great instructions. I have never seen any instruction better than this. I replaced an LCD in the intensity 3 like Jrock17.

Almost same with the instruction except that the mother board is latched to the case near the earphone plug and the microphone. It works perfectly!

Thanks for the great instructions. I had to replace an LCD in the Intensity 3.

Almost identical, except 5 black screws to hold case on......and the locking bar for the LCD cable is black....it lifts very easily by hand ( fingernail). Other than that, everything is exactly the same.

Thanks again, hope this helps anyone considering replacing the LCD in an Intensity 3.

If my "flex" cable is ripped, should that affect my screen working or not? I replaced the LCD screen, but cannot get the screen to light up.
sig7707 (author) in reply to twentyfourNov 20, 2012. 1:13 PM
If your cable is ripped then it will not work. Sorry.

Thanks sig7707. Third time was a charm! I must not've had the cable in right because I had to repeat before I got the screen to turn on, still better then bying a new phone!

Don't feel bad. I had to do mine 3 times as well. :)

Awesome! A smartphone repair place wanted $100 to fix my daughter's phone. $15 on Amazon and some patience got her screen back. I had her help me so she could do it herself next time (maybe there won't be a next time - ha!)

Hey glad I could help. Just view the world as if each broken item was made from Legos and you can put anything back together. :)

i replaced the lcd screen and display is great but now the front keypad doesn't work and I can power it on and see who is calling but can't answer...Help! Any ideas?
sig7707 (author) in reply to sharminmJun 21, 2012. 12:23 PM
Look at step 5 again. The larger ribbon cable is for the keypad. Make sure that the lines are lined up like shown.

My flex cable snapped and I need to reinstall it.
Your post was a lot help and I was able to get to separate my cell phone into two.
One part of the flex cable is glued on to the LCD screen and other part goes in to the mother board but I don't know how to access it.
Can you help me to access the motherboard part?
Would it be okay for me to apply force to take off the flex cable that is glued on to the LCD?
Do I need to buy a glue?
sig7707 (author) in reply to soohyun2222May 30, 2012. 1:18 PM
Hi. On Step 5 you can see all 3 of the "flex" or ribbon cables. Are you talking about the one that is very wide? That is lightly glued to the back of the LCD screen. You can just gently peel it off from the LCD. Don't worry about gluing it back there should be enough adhesive left on it. If I can be of further help just ask. :)

Thanks I have the Schu 460 but it worked almost the same. It is working now. Thanks alot. I think I forgot to take off the plastic on the new lcd but it seems to make no difference just some barely visible part #

Recently replaced Intensity 2 screen and your help was great. Reason for replacement, left phone in pants pocket in washing machine. After replacing the screen everything works except for the bluetooth. The symbol on the phone lights up indicating power on but it wouldn't connect with my car nor could I pair it.
Any ideas about that? Could I have done something during the screen replacement?
Thanks, Joe
sig7707 (author) in reply to joe0307Mar 24, 2012. 3:21 PM
Joe,

Sorry I don't know about that one. The only thing I can think of is that there is a bluetooth antenna in the case somewhere on the board. Maybe that was disconnected. I don't know what to tell you to look for though. That's one of the issues I have with this phone is that you can't find any schematics for it. My instructable is from trial and error.

My sister is in an electric wheelchair, and constantly drops her Samsung Intensity II. Yesterday, she dropped it on the floor, and backed up to pick it up. little did she know, the phone slid right under her tire. she ran over the phone with her 500lb wheelchair, and the screen snapped off. the ribbon cable was ripped right out of the screen and the connector pins were ripped of the ribbon cable. is there any way to fix this issue?
sig7707 (author) in reply to nickg432Mar 11, 2012. 6:12 PM
That sounds like a tough one. You could look on Ebay and find a phone that is broken in a different way than yours and scavenge the parts out of your to put in the other one. Most stuff either unplugs or unscrews. That may be your best option. Check with your provider they may have a better fix for you as well. Sometimes they will upgrade for free if you are at the end of your contract. Good luck.

Instructions were great! No problems at all. I did have to fight the screen to get it out though, it came out in pieces, first the backing, and then the screen and border material. Otherwise, everything went perfect. Thanks....

Instructions were perfect! I was able to get the screen replaced no problem at all. Hardest part was holding the slider halfway open to get at that last screw behind the screen section.

This still works great. Got my LCD off Ebay for $21.00, followed instructions, Wife ran over this phone with the car broke the screen, now it works fine. It is so small to work with, but followed instructions and it all worked great - thanks for information like this really helps save money for us.

Incredible--I've had to replace my 16 year-old son's LCD a SECOND time in 3 1/2 months! Thanks once again sig7707!
jbrownfield1 says: Dec 12, 2011. 2:00 PM
That was great! The most difficult step for me was figuring out where the cases seperated to open the darn thing up! Your descriptions were right on. One thing....the blue/green tape that goes over the lcd and button ribbon connections ...it's sitting here in front of me. I forgot that step- putting it back over the connection. is it necessary? I thank you again. Joe.
sig7707 (author) in reply to jbrownfield1Dec 13, 2011. 6:12 AM
It's probably not necessary. I believe that it is there to hold down the brown locking doors at the end of the ribbon cable. Glad I could help.

THANKS FOR POSTING THIS,I'm not good at this type of thing but I took my time and aside from 1 stripped screw, worked the first time. Thanks again
sig7707 (author) in reply to khodges1Nov 17, 2011. 7:17 PM
Glad that it helped you. Take the stripped screw and dip it into some model glue then re-insert it. That should repair the threads enough to hold.
Zloulias says: Nov 9, 2011. 10:14 PM
I just put the new screen in, and it only goes white when i turn it on. Did i do something wrong? Or is the phone done for?
sig7707 (author) in reply to ZlouliasNov 11, 2011. 5:01 PM
Take it back apart and re-insert the ribbon cable. Mine had the white screen until I got it just right.
ltramey says: Nov 6, 2011. 6:49 PM
This worked perfectly!!!! Thank you so much for the excellent step-by-step. The only step that scared me a little was lifting the other two ribbons away from the old LCD-- I had to use some prying action and it made me nervous, but all was well. Forgot to put the blue tape back, but hopefully it won't matter.

THANKS AGAIN!
