Save $200 in 2 minutes and have the worlds best writing pen
Step 8Dial 911
(Due to the violent nature of this step, we have not included a picture) Using any sharp implement (scissors, knife, axe, etc) cut the refil to be the same length as the original ink. (please use adult supervision)
At the sight of the knife, the pen screamed," AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHH! NO! NO! PLEASE, NO!!" But alas, its cries and pleas for mercy did not soften the Instrucableist's cruel, stone heart. As the knife sawed through the defenseless pen, horrible screams of pain pierced and rent the air, and yet the brutal Instructableist was deaf to them.
An alternative to cutting the top off the mont blanc refill is to use a two bit o-ring as a spacer to extend the G2 body to accommodate the longer mont blanc refill. Unscrew the pen, and place the o-ring over the lower half of the G2 pen body just above the rubber grip. I found my o-rings in the Sears Hardware plumbing department. They measured 5/16" ID by 7/16" OD by 1/16" thick, and were in a package marked F80 that contained four o-rings. An added bonus is this modification is reversible -- just remove the o-ring. Also the refill can still be used in a mont blanc body... Enjoy and Happy Hacking!
I found that a boxcutter did the job remarkably well. I just held the pricey refill next to the cheap one on my desk, and gave the pricey one a bit of a bris to match the cheap ones size. With the boxcutter it just clipped right off. I thought I may have to saw it a bit but it cut through the plastic very easy.
Again, for clarity, do you mean "cut the threaded portion of the Mont Blanc refill to be the same length as the threaded portion of the original ink refill"? (the refills themselves look like they are the same length to me)
What I like to do when cutting plastic is heat up a knife in the gas flame of a cooker then use the hot knife blade to do the cutting. (Just watch out for the plastic fumes unless you like that woozy feeling.)
