I felt the need to make this instructable after searching in INSTRUCTABLES and other pages of the WWW and not having satisfied my need of knowledge I decided to make one and on the way of making it, why not take pictures and make an INSTRUCTABLE as well.

Sentí la necesidad de hacer este instructivo despues de buscar en las páginas de INSTRUCTABLES y otras páginas de la WWW y no habiendo encotrado nada que satisfaciera mi necesidad de conocimiento, decidí hacer uno por mi cuenta y porque no tomar unas fotos y hacer un INSTRUCTIVO tambien.

Step 1: LIST OF MATERIALS - LISTA DE MATERIALES

List of Materials
- 4 CDs or DVDs, the brand should be ACME
- Exacto Knife or Cutter
  and Scissors
- 2 Washes to fit inside
  the center of the CD - DVD
  with a 1/4”inner hole
- plenty Washes that fit
  over the center of the CD
- Two feet at least of a 1/4”
   threaded bolt
  - 4 or more nuts 1/4”
- Cardboard Sheet
- Super glue or
- Silicon glue
a lot of patience

TIME TO EXECUTE THIS PROJECT

I estimate about 2 hours of real working time plus about 4 hours letting the glue get dry

Lista de Materiales

   tornillo sinfin de  1/4”
-  4 o mas tuercas de 1/4”
- Pliego de Cartulina
- Super glue or
- Silicon glue  caliente o
   en frio
y bastante paciencia

TIEMPO DE EJECUCION DE ESTE PROYECTO

Estimo 2 horas de tiempo real de trabajo + unas 4 horas para que la pega vaya secando

Step 2: MARKING THE CENTERS - MARCANDO LOS CENTROS

Find the Center of your CD - DVD and mark it.

PRINT the helping Schema at the end of this instructable to serve you as a
TEMPLATE - PDF file

Encuentre el Centro de sus CD - DVD y marquelos.

IMPRIMA el esquema que encontrará al final de este instructivo y utilicelo como
PLANTILLA - Archivo PDF

Step 3: CUTTING YOUR CDs AT THE CENTER - CORTAR SUS CDs AL CENTRO

You need to cut two CDs  ( Whit your Cutter, Exacto Knife, Scissors etc.)
Please dont cut your fingers in this proccess

Usted necesita cortar dos CDs ( Con su Bisturí, Navaja, Tijeras etc.)
Por favor no se corte los dedos en este proceso

Step 4: GLUE THE 4 HALVES - PEGUE LAS 4 MITADES

Try to align them the best that you can and put glue.  Let them rest and dry enouhg time.

I made a TEMPLATE that you can print.

Trate de alinearlos lo mejor que pueda de esta manera y apliqueles pegamento.  Dejelos secar el tiempo suficiente.

Hice una PLANTILLA que usted puede imprimir.

Step 5: MORE GLUING - MAS PEGAMENTO

Glue the small washes inside the center of the CDs - DVDs, use Epoximil for this (Two parts Epoxi)
Let them dry enough time

Pegue las arandelas pequeñas en el centro del CD - DVD, use Epoximil para esto (Epoxi de 2 partes)
Dejelos secar sufiencte tiempo

Step 6: STILL MORE GLUING - AUN MAS PEGAMENTOS

Glue the bigger washes in the center of the CDs and over the small washes on the outer sides of each CD.  Let it dry enough time.

Pegue las arandelas mas grandes sobre las pequeñas en el centro del CD - DVD, en el lado de afuera de cada CD o DVD.  Deje que la
pega se seque bien.

Step 7: UPSIDE AND INSIDE OF CDs - LADOS DE ADENTRO Y AFUERA DE LOS CDs

You should be able to identify the Outside and Inside of your CDs or DVDs, and the Outside should be the side in which you
glued the bigger washer over the smaller washer, and the inside should be where you see the smaller washer.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU IDENTIFY THIS ALIGNEMENT


Usted debe de ser capaz de identificar los lados de afuera y adentro del CD o DVD, el lado de afuera es el lado en que usted pegó la arandela grande sobre la pequeña, y el lado de adentro es adonde usted ve la arandela pequeña.

ES MUY IMPORTANTE QUE USTED IDENTIFIQUE ESTA ALINEACION

Step 8: STILL MORE GLUING - AUN MAS PEGAMENTO

We put together one of the CDs and one of the joined halves of the CDs and glue them this way and let it dry.
Do the same with the other CD and halves of CD.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU TAKE CARE OF THE WAY YOU PUT THESE FACES TOGETHER IF NOT
YOU COULD END WITH ONE OF THE SIDES LOOKING ONE WAY AND THE OTHER THE OTHER WAY AND
YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE ONE OF THE SIDES AGAIN IF YOU WANT TO ASSEMBLE THIS SAVONIUS. PLEASE PAY ATENTION TO THESE THREE PICTURES
 
Juntamos uno de los CDs con una de las mitades que pegamos en el paso 4, les ponemos suficiente pega y los dejamos secar.
Haga esto con el otro CD y las otras mitades pegadas.

ES MUY IMPORTANTE QUE USTED MIRE CUIDADOSAMENTE LAS TRES FOTOS PARA PEGAR CADA UNO DE LOS LADOS YA QUE SI USTED NO LO HACE ASI, AL QUERER ENSAMBLAR EL MOLINO SAVONIUS TEMINARA CON UNA MITAD MIRANDO PARA UN LADO Y LA OTRA PARA EL OTRO Y NO LE QUEDARA MAS QUE VOLVER A HACER UNA DE LAS PARTES. 

Step 9: REMEMBER SCHOOL? - SE ACUERDAN DE LA ESCUELA?

Step 10: THE WAY I LIKE - LA MANERA QUE ME GUSTA

This is the way I like to do it, it is more fun.

Esta es la forma que a mi me gusta hacer las cosas, es mas divertido

Step 11: WE ARE ALMOST DONE - CASI TERMINAMOS

Now we are almost done, take your cardboard and cut two rectangles with the following dimensions
WIDTH 7.46" or 7 7/16 which is our Arch
HEIGHT 6"  This can be really between 4 and 8 inches I let you decide I used 4 inches for mine

Bien, casi terminamos, tome su pliego de cartulina y corte dos rectangulos iguales
ANCHO 7.46" o 7 7/16" que es el perimetro de nuestro arco.
EL ALTO puede ser entre 4 y 8 pulgadas, eso queda a criterio de cada
quien, yo utilize 4 pulgadas en el mio.

Step 12: PUTTING IT TOGETHER - ENSAMBLANDO

Step 13: FINAL PRODUCT - PRODUCTO FINAL

This is the final product of all this INSTRUCTABLE, hope you enjoyed, if so Pleases Rate It.

The Shaft used here is just for the purpose of providing you with pictures, so is the Saw,

One more thing, you can scale up this savonius using other materials like wood, playwood, iron or cutting a barrel in two halves for a bigger one.

El eje usado aquí fue solo para las fotos y película, aun no he determinado el tamaño de eje que voy a utilizar
en mi proyecto final, tampoco la Sierra es parte de esta etapa del proyecto.  GRACIAS POR VER Y LEER ESTE INSTRUCTIVO.

Una cosa mas, usted puede escalar este proyecto utilizando otros materiales tales como madera, plywood, o cotando un barril de metal por la mitad para un Savomius mas grande.

Thanks for the reply!<br> NO , my dryer has a cold setting, just seems the body/hub was hot.<br>may be normal, for all I know.<br>I did no modification, just reading the out leads. of a straight out the box CPU fan. hte pix I sent was of a diff attempt, wiht a fan that was out of order, tried to start from scratch.<br>Steve

Hi Slim49, <br> <br>Thank for liking my Project and hope you &aacute;re able to mount on it a fan motor to generate energy. <br> <br>If you use a Computer Fan and modify it you can generate between 7 and 12 volts, it will depend on the wind speed you get. <br> <br>If you do your savoniuos a Little larger tan I did you should get more torque on it. <br> <br>Let me know when you finish your Project <br> <br>Thank you <br> <br>Carlos Arguello
Hello,<br> thank you for your interest.<br>I tried to use a CPU fan with a hair Dryer test blower. only got a volt &amp; 1/2 dc out of that! :-( and the fans body got really hot<br>see pic, I then took an old fan apart &amp; dremel ground off all the circuit traces to expose the 4 post on each comunators. tried various connections to get some output, Got ZERO_ ZIP, nada.<br><br> any ideas?<br>Slim

COOL IDEA! I'DE USE 26 GAGE WIRE FOR 4 COILS AND FOUR, 1/2 INCH BY 1/8 INCH MAGNETS FOR EACH MAGNET ROTOR. I BET IT WILL SPIN NICELY. <br>MUDDy
