Several Easy Steps to Boost Your Computer's Speed

Step 26Ram Booster (No known free solution...)

Ram Booster (No known free solution...)
NOTICE: I have heard pros and cons about Ram Boosters. If you have any more info on the subject, I would greatly appreciate it! I would not suggest using this without more research into the product, as there has been mixed reviews. I am simply putting this up here as an option and idea for those who want to take some time to research ram boosters further.

This type of program is only worth using if you have lots of RAM (minimum 1 GB.) Smaller RAM programs like this consume more than they free up.

These programs will speed up any computer system. It works by using New Hard-Disk optimization technology that allows your computer to read data in some cases up to 300% faster from your Hard Drive. It then optimizes your RAM and makes other settings to speed up your Internet connection and overall computer performance.

Because of recent troubles with a lot of ads, spam, and even malware, I would highly recommend that you stay away from the program pictured below. Please research for a good one on your own, and if you find one, feel free to send a link to it! I'm very sorry for any problems that this might have caused anyone.

One suggestion for windows XP and older users: http://download.cnet.com/FreeRAM-XP-Pro/3000-2086_4-10070530.html

Weeeehooo!  I came back just to let you all know, that the SpeeditUp Free program is completely malicious!!  Beware, beware, beware!  Even though I was very careful not to allow it to install all the "extras" it kept nagging me about, it went behind my back and installed others I had no choice about.  End result, I got infected with the my.freeze.com malware 'suite', which amongst other things was causing my browser to do nothing but continuously reload click.w3i.com and you can not stop it from doing so.  It also plays havoc with your wireless settings as well.

Long story short, I think I've got it all cleaned up now (bits and pieces keep showing up in unusual locations), but it's not worth the trouble of other people risking installing it to learn the hard way!  Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes and Hijack This! do not clean this one up, or even detect it!  I can see this one causing people giving Geek Squad lots of their hard-earned bucks so that they can use their computers again.

Oh that's ok, I've certainly done this sort of thing before with freeware!  I consider it a learning experience, and now we all know to avoid that program, and the distributor as well.  So far so good, I seem to have got it all weeded out, though I won't assume it's totally gone for another 24 hours ;)

Word of caution about this one.  I'm giving it a try right now, and it seems OK more or less, but be very very careful when installing it because it's going to try to install a lot of other software (Yahoo toolbars, Firefox add-ons etc.) and change your homepage.  Once it's done installing, it will also open about 2 or 3 browser windows on you with offers of "free games" and what-not, and then after a few minutes, it's going to hit you up for money so you can "register" it and get updates.  So it's not exactly free in the end.  In short, the whole program acts suspiciously!

There is a much better alternative and it's called MemoKit.  It isn't free, but it's a one-time fee (that they are up-front about!) and you're good for a lifetime of updates (I've used it since 1995, and they do mean lifetime of updates!)  It does much the same thing as SpeedItUp Free, without all the unwanted "extras" (I'm suspicious of spyware with this one.)  MemoKit is one of the few software programs I'll actually pay my hard-earned dollars on!

Yeah, I already got rid of it - it was giving me all sorts of red flags, and the timed popup windows advertising other products were the last straw for me!
