Introduction: Sew a Lace Bracelet

About: I'm 17, I like to build and make stuff.

This is a how to for sewing a Lace bracelet. It was pointed out to me later that this could also be used as a baby’s bonnet. Please be careful with the scissors and sewing needle. This Instructable is on my website also. Enjoy!! -

Oh ya: This is my first Instructable ~-~

Step 1: Gather the Supplies

Gather all of the supplies you will need to make the lace bracelet. You don’t have to stick to my materials list EXACTLY (duh!) be creative, and depending on your sewing skills you can use harder to sew fabrics, such as silk.

You’ll need:

- Sewing Measuring Tape
- Material Scissors
- Sewing Needle and Thread
- Sewing Pins
- Ribbon
- Material
- Lace Trim

Step 2: Measure

Measure the distance around your wrist using the measuring tape. Remember or write down the measurement on paper for step 2. This will determine how long your bracelet must be to wrap around your wrist.

Step 3: Measure & Cut Fabric

Lye out your fabric, GOOD SIDE DOWN on a flat surface, such as a table. Using your measuring tape and measurement from step one, us a pencil/pen/chalk to mark on your fabric a dot the distance measured in step 1, from the very edge of your fabric. Add a little length so that you have some sewing leverage. Now, determine how wide you would like your lace bracelet. Once you have determined this, measure from a neighboring edge of the fabric toward the center of the fabric. You should now have a picture of a rectangle. Next is to cut out this rectangle with your scissor ( BE CAREFUL), then cut out another identical rectangle. (I used a pin to mark on my fabric)

Step 4: ................................................................................................................................................................

Place the two cut out rectangles good sides facing each other. Use a pin to hold them together for now. Grab your Lace trip and hold it to each longer side of your materiel. Using your scissors again, cut the lace so that you now have two identical lengths of lace trimming for the sides of your lace bracelet.

Step 5: ................................................................................................................................................................

Then place your lace trim along the inside edge of your fabric material rectangles. Remember to put the lace between the two pieces of material and to MAKE SURE that the scallopt, (pretty edge) of the lace, is facing inward, and the edge of the lace trim for sewing is right on the edge of the fabric, so as to not sew the good side of the lace trim.

Step 6: ...................................................................................................................................................

Continue pinning the lace trim until it looks similar to my picture. You don't have to use as many pins as me; I'm just extremely paranoid. Then begin to sew near the outer edge. ONLY along the long sides of the materiel NOT the short ends yet!

Step 7: ...........................................................................................................................

Once you have completed step 5, remove all the pins. Next you'll need to cut four pieces (or just two, if you'd like) of ribbon. Take into account how much you'd like to use, to tie the lace bracelet around your wrist. Next, slip the ribbon for the first side BETWEEN the pieces of materiel, through one of the short-opened ends, until there is only a small amount of ribbon sticking out the end, and pin into place (see pic). Sew the FIRST end completely closed, leaving the other small opening still open.

Step 8: ...........................................................................................................................

This is a good chance for you to cut any dangling thread before Step 8 -

Step 9: ...........................................................................................................................

Now you can turn your material "right-side out". You can start to see the project coming togethor.

Step 10: ...........................................................................................................................

This is where it gets tricky. This time you will want to insert only a small amount of the ribbon that was cut for the open end in-between the two pieces of material. This time fold the 'lips' of the material, slightly inward and pin everything into place (see pic). Sew very carefully and very small so that you can hide your thread but keep the ribbon in place.

Step 11: ...........................................................................................................................

Finally, but not least! Trim off any left over thread of dangling thread. If your ribbon starts to unravel, use a lighter of matches to slightly burn the ends. << Good trick ; )

and .. TAH DAH!!!!!!!!!!
