I originally saw this idea of a Shuriken USB on the internet and decided to make one of my own. I thought of a simple and quick way to replicate the idea using foam cored poster board. So by following these simple steps you too can make your own and have a cool looking USB.

Hey, I think you should modify it so that each "blade" is a usb drive (4 total)
Although i don't think they will all fit with the size that you have but, there are smaller ones out there

Yours is the coolest looking USB to make it to the finalists, in my opinion. Nice job, and congrats!

id you use hot glue gun to glue in the usb, or did you use epoxy or super glue? im almost done, just need this one simle question to be answered.

I would reecomend using hot glue like i did, it fills in the spaces around the USB a lot better and the overall strength of the bond isnt too important

the acrylic is important. Without it, the foam 'recedes' and you will need to start over.
eyefail (author) in reply to bgulmonJul 26, 2011. 10:51 PM
yep, it would ruin everything
bgulmon in reply to eyefailJul 27, 2011. 9:32 AM
I didn't read all the instructions while i was working on this, so i just went ahead and spray painted it. Whoops... learning new things every day

do you think a USB cap is necessary, or will the foam core board be enough?
eyefail (author) in reply to bgulmonJul 25, 2011. 11:22 PM
it will work either way, you can use the cap to make the top stay on better but it is not needed if you dont want to
shadow wave rider says: Jul 22, 2011. 2:24 AM
did you take the case off the usb before you attached the shariken design to it?
eyefail (author) in reply to shadow wave riderJul 22, 2011. 2:31 AM
no you dont need to, you just cut to the size of the case. Its up to you.
shadow wave rider in reply to eyefailJul 22, 2011. 6:56 PM
how thick is the poster board you used
eyefail (author) in reply to shadow wave riderJul 22, 2011. 7:43 PM
it is 5mm thick poster board

what kind of paint did u use on the front & back of the shuriken?
eyefail (author) in reply to ninja_makerJul 21, 2011. 10:59 PM
i first sealed it with just a pva glue, then coated it in a couple light coats of spray paint, you could also clear coat it to make it shiny

ninja_maker says: Jul 18, 2011. 7:29 AM
hey coul you do this with just the insides of the usb? oFTo
eyefail (author) in reply to ninja_makerJul 18, 2011. 10:57 PM
yeah, just cut out a little less to make the circuit board fit snug to avoid damage
