Looking for a creative way to display and store DVDs?
This build is just that, and it is CHEAP!

Home Depot scrap lumber ($1.00)
Good Will DVDs ($6.00)
Remaining supplies can be found lying around in most garages.

Step 1: Materials

KEEP IN MIND THAT THE NOMINAL DIMENSION OF LUMBER IS OVERESTIMATED FROM THE ACTUAL DIMENSION. [ex. 2'' x 4'' = 1.5" x 3.5"; 1'' x 6'' = .75'' x 5.5"] HOWEVER, THE STATED LENGTH IS THE ACTUAL LENGTH.

Materials:
-(2) 1'' x 6'' x 12''
-(1) 1'' x 6'' x 8''
-(1) 1'' x 6'' x 9.5''
-(2) 1'' x 6'' x 2''
-(10) #6 x 1'' wood screws [I recommend pilot holes with longer screws, I was just concerned about splitting the lumber]
-(4) 3'' nails
-(2) DVD cases
-Wood Glue
-Exacto knife
-Paint (I used a can of matte black)

Step 2: Hammer, Glue, and Screw

Hammer (2) 3'' nails 2.5'' x 1.5'' from both corners on one end of the 12'' board.

Line up a DVD case to the nails and cut holes into the bottom with an exacto knife.

Glue the 8'' board to the end of 12'' board (same edge and side of the nails), and then screw the joint together to secure (2 screws at 1.75'' from the corners).

Repeat the first and second step on the remaining 12'' board.

Glue the other end of the 8'' board to the end of the new 12'' board (same edge of the nails, but opposite side), and then screw the joint together to secure (2 screws at 1.75'' from the corners).

Note: the picture shows the case on the nails. Wait until everything is assembled and painted before putting the cases on. I will talk about placing the cases in a later step.

Step 3: Glue and Screw the Back Support, and Paint

Glue the 9.5'' board along the end of the 12'' boards, opposite end of the 8'' board.

Screw the joint to secure (4 screws at 1.5'' from the corners).

Paint everything! (I painted in segments between steps)

Step 4: Cut, Glue, and Screw the Base

Cut .5'' from the end of the 1'' x 6'' x 2'' boards at 45 degree angles. The cut will not completely make a point on the boards; there will be a flat edge remaining.

Glue the flat edge of the cut 2'' boards together.

Glue the base to the bottom of the DVD holder, and then screw the joint to secure (2 screws at .25'' from the end).

Note: I sanded all of the edges to smooth them out.

Step 5: Complete!

Toinsert the bottom case: open it, line up the holes with the nails, and close it onto the nails.

Toinsert the top case: slide nails into the holes

To finish it off, I glued 2 DVDs to the sides.

Now just stack your DVDs behind the cases, and you are complete!
