The hardest part for me was poking through the cap. I pushed a bit to hard on one of them. The bottle opener slipped and cut my hand. :( Good job though.

nice instructable!

the only thing is that i found a better way of explaining the rubber band part, think about it as a candy wrapper. for example, it looks like; >o< , there are both ends and there is the middle (the actual candy). now make the candy wrapper shape with the rubber band and attach the "end" parts (in the case of the rubber band, they will be closed, as a circle, not open) of the wrapper to the tooth pick ends of one of the toothpicks. now put one of the sides of the "candy" part of the rubber band on the side of the bottle cap (this is the side used to shoot the toothpicks) and the other side in the bottom like in your picture.

i also showed this to my cousins at a restaurant and they were pretty amazed! the restaurant had toothpicks, i ordered a diet coke and used the cap, and i asked the waiter for a rubber band, a tack, and some tape. i used the tack to make the holes and whirled it around as it was in the hole to expand it a little more and in a couple of minutes we were at war, except we snapped off the pointy ends for safety (we were in a restaurant with other people, not the best time to shoot pointy things :)

Thanks! Oh and nice candy wrapper >o<.
Just one thing I don't agree with, a restaurant full of people is the best place to shoot pointy things, you have tons of targets! Just get a seat near the exit ;).

Nice, bu this is more of a bow than a crossbow. Crossbow has a trigger...
EnigmaMax in reply to Colonel88Apr 15, 2010. 8:20 PM
not necessarily, some ancient Chinese crossbows were fired as soon as they were pumped.

but yes, I agree that it is a bow.

ohh, and is there any way you could add a string to the toothpick so you could just haul it back in after shooting it?:P
tankguy (author) in reply to Capt. FatJul 11, 2009. 4:56 AM
It might be a little tough, but you could get some thread and tape it just below the hole the tooth pick comes out of, then tape the other end of the string somewhere close to the end of the toothpick, Although if you were using a very strong rubber band (the big fat kinds) the tape might fall off.

Nice! This one is really improved from the last one. Glad you added the step about the ammo.

How much power does this thing have? I'm asking because if I show my son, I don't want him shooting some kid in the arm and it breaking the skin. It is so cool, I know inevitably he will try and shoot someone with it.
tankguy (author) in reply to blacklionJul 11, 2009. 4:52 AM
It all depends on the strength of the rubber band you're using, If you don't trust your son with semi-dangerous projectiles I suggest you use a slightly larger, limper rubber band. Also, if you're worried about causing injury just snip the other end off of the toothpick as well, that way it won't poke anybody.

LOL! Awesome. Gonna have to play with this one. Wonder if there's any way to add fletching to the arrow to get some more distance/accuracy?
tankguy (author) in reply to Javin007Jul 4, 2009. 4:00 AM
You could try making the holes it's fired from slightly rectangular to provide space for the fletching. You could try making the fletching out of tape like in this instructablehttp://www.instructables.com/id/Amazing-Toothpick-Darts/.
