I like to use my strawberries to create a simple strawberry sauce that can be used on everything from pancakes to pound cake. It is delicious enough to even be eaten on its own as a sweet summer snack! A bit of googling told me that my simple strawberry sauce that I grew up with is called macerated strawberries.
That sounds weird. I like simple strawberry sauce better.
This is one of my favorite ways to prepare strawberries and can be used in a number of ways. The liquid can be mixed with milk for a strawberry milk better than nesquiks, or you can pour the strawberries and syrup over ice cream, pound cake, or angel food cake. They are all delicious!
All you need is a pound of strawberries and a quarter cup of sugar.
And a bowl that has a lid.
Step 1: Clean and Cut
Then you will want to remove the stems and cut them up into whatever size chunks you desire.
Throw all those chunks into the bowl with the lid
Step 2: SWEETNESS
Put the lid on the bowl, and (while holding the lid on tight) shake the bowl to coat all of the strawberries in the sugar.
Mmmm...Screw sugarplums, I want sugarstrawberries...
After sneaking a berry piece or two, put the lid back on. Let that sit out on the counter for about 30 minutes to an hour.
Step 3: Ta Da! Strawberry Sauce!
Go enjoy this on pancakes, waffles, muffins, pound cake, angel food cake, ice cream, and more!
Or you can just rock it like I do, plain. Maybe with some whipped cream on top. Enjoy!
