Introduction: Simple Diy Blog

Picture of Simple Diy Blog

I am in the process of making a blog dedicated to my diy projects http://www.yourdiyguy.blogspot.com . I have done many of the projects on instructables and have my own tweaks and insights that i will be putting on the site. This is how I did it and its easy as 1 2 3!

Step 1: Get Gmail

Setup a google account. It is easy and it is always nice to have an extra email account. If you already have one you can skip on to the next step. If you don't all you need to do is go to google.com and click on the gmail link. It will then guide you through the process of getting and account.

Step 2: Get a Blogspot Account

To get a blogspot account all you need to do is go to this link http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/ and click on the blogger link. Since you have already set up a google account you can use that as your login info.

Step 3: Be Creative!

Once you have started your blog you can be as creative as you want. Their are all types of tools and addons that google give you access to to make your website very unique. I know this is not the most fancy intructable out there but I hope someone gets inspired by it and my blog http://www.yourdiyguy.blogspot.com

It's not possible to create a Google account any more as they require a mobile phone number for registration and who would want one of those? let alone give them your number...

Kiteman (author)temper2011-04-13

I didn't have to give my mobile number to start my blog.

temper (author)Kiteman2011-04-13

But you already had a Google account right?

Kiteman (author)temper2011-04-13

I've just made a new google account with an email address that did not previously have a google account - it asked me for nothing except the email address and a password.

I think you're thinking of the optional step where they ask you for a mobile number in case you forget your password.

temper (author)Kiteman2011-04-13

No it is definitely not optional - they ask for a secret question in case you forget your password (they have a recovery email address too but this, they say, can be left blank) - the mobile phone thing comes up after you hit the "create account" button - could this be a location based thing?

Kiteman (author)temper2011-04-14

I don't know - I get asked for the number every few weeks, and I always leave it blank.

I think the only way to get around it is you ask a friend to use there cell phone if you dont want to use your own. I know its a bummer that they require it but Im pretty sure its b/c they have massive problems with spammers.

temper (author)yourdiyguy2011-04-12

Well that's what they say too but that's not really practical especially for OS people as the costs would be prohibitive - and it also assumes that you (read I) have friends! ;-)

(BTW I AM serious - I don't own a mobile (cell) phone and I don't want or need one one). Personally I don't know how people can afford them.

Fortunately I created a couple of accounts before they introduced this method (which I think should be made illegal) which I use as a spam catcher for online purchases, forum registrations etc - alas if they ever get swamped by spam I won't be able to use that method any more...

Hahaha Im sure you have friends but I understand the position you are in with a cell phone. You have inspired me to try to figure out an alternate method for creating a easy blog. I will post a new intructables once I figure it out :0)

Will keep an eye out for it - cheers!

(BTW it IS a useful instructable)
