Simple easy to make weed killer.

I had a real weed problem in the front yard and bed. The home owners assn threatened bloody murder if I did not take care of it. I searched the web and found a weed killer that puts the commercial stuff to shame and it is a lot safer on the environment. I have not had to weed in several months. It is probably time for a second application this year.

Step 1: Ingredients.

1 gallon or thereabouts of the cheapest vinegar. s/b under 2 dollars.
1 container table salt. s/b under 50 cents.
 2 tablespoons liquid detergent for washing dishes or such.  whole bottle should be under a dollar.
Extra container the size of the vinegar container.

Tools
1 sprayer unless you want to splash it out manually.

So, a lot of vinegar, a lot of salt, splash of dish soap.

I am removing weeds from a concrete area that was formerly used as a skate park. A new fancy park was built and this one was abandoned, but perfect for ball hockey... so time to salt the earth (and vinegar, with a splash of detergent). The longer (ie never) it takes the weeds to come back the better.

It will not last forever, but it sure beats removing weeds all the time.

This will be great for my gravel-covered parking area which always has weeds popping through. No need to worry about the effect the salt has, either. Thanks for this. Now to convert to litres, grams, etc. :-)

Thankx for the comments. if you go to a search engine and tpe in say 1 litre =, you can easily get your answer. Works with at least Google.

Thank you for your comment. I am sure you are right. but after several months I need to do a re-application. It does not bother the grass we have here at all. As for a flour or vegetable garden, I would not use the salt there either. Where there are only bushes or trees, I have no problem with it.

I wouldnt recommend using the salt in any area you want anything to grow as it builds up in the soil, takes forever to disapate and will kill almost anything planted. That being said.... Ive used vinager and a little dish detergent for yrs to control all but the most stubborn weeds. it works best if applied early in the day and be sure to soak the base of the weed
