Make an auto lightswich turner on thing without technology. I know that slideshow is of drawn pics, but the idae is clear.

Materials:
string (the sturdier the better)
thumbtack or screw with loop ( the screw will be in slideshow)
tape or other sticky thing that wont tear off with pressure
door
lightswitch

when the door opens, the lightswitch is turned on by the string, but you have to turn off the light when you leave the room

EXACTLY!? This annoys me SO much! What do you do?
munchman in reply to WarlrosityJul 19, 2010. 11:49 PM
I just turn on the light... For me, it's not that much effort, so I haven't really tought about it.

I know, and it's such a shame... and honestly, I can't think of a soloution other than getting a US style switch installed. Or X10... now that's fun.

This won't work. The standard light switch moves about an inch as it is activated or deactivated. A door must be opened at least a foot for someone to squeeze through. It is technically possible to do this if you put the tape point close to the hinges and do some fine tuning but it wouldn't turn off as you leave. The biggest problem here isn't how you would do this but rather why.

u would do it to be lazy its just a thing for your spare time

now that i think of it, if you close the door after walking in, the string would flip it off when u leave the room cause u'd have to open the door again

No it woudn't. think about it. You'll figure it out.

to do that, you put the screw thing beneath the lightswitch and trail it up to the door oh..that would pull the switch down when the door is opened

Instead of this, why not make one that automatically turns lights off when you leave, so that you can save electricity.
