My parents wanted a gate that didn't touch the house & that the gardner could open from the outside & the inside as that the man they contracted to do it did a cheap job. So after a month of thinking, this is what I came up with

Single sided fence. On the top left is the gate the fence builder installed with the instructions to not touch the vinyl & it kind of worked opening from the inside, but not the outside

I installed the pipe onto it so it worked better, I used two different sizes of metal pipe where one fit into the other with a T connector & cut with a hack saw then used ultrablack (or a cheap RV sealant) to keep it in place & insure that it doesn't move under the metal straps.

But the key is making a strong box frame which makes the gate ridged and have a consistant way to stop instead of dragging on the ground sometimes.

***Note: Somebody wanted additional instructions/steps for this, so in order to publish I included the dragon. The reality is, I don't think making a gate is that difficult. I looked at a neighbors gate & didn't need any sort of instructions to make one for me. I think you the reader is smart enough to figure it out. & I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence to show you how a hammer & nail works, a drill & screw, or a nail gun to put it together. I don't think it takes a genis to figure out how to purchase 2 different sized pipes for their application & then use a hack saw to cut to fit. So why am I putting this up? Well I went around the web & it seemed no one had a single post gate with some form of locking mechanism, everyone has a gate with two posts, & the stuff & advise at Lowes didn't seem to work for this project. So after a month of thinking, I came up with this, it works very well & is very sturdy. Now I'm putting it up here to share with anyone with a similar problem.
