Used a digital timer (600dt - selec) to automate my non-commercial motor.

This is a simple but yet useful project that still remains working in my home. This is the first real time project for me. I live in a locality where a high parsimony for water has to be maintained, being this the scenario we couldn't tolerate the water being overfilled every-time I filled my overhead tanks . I thought of solving this problem by using a timer and relay to turn off the motor after a pre-defined delay. Hence I used an industrial timer that is timer 600dt by SELEC, because it has a digital timer and a relay inbuilt in it. Although this timer is far to superior than required I decided to use this because the time can easily be adjusted in future even by a layman with some help. I also brought some 230V LED indicators along with the timer and some wooden pieces to form a chamber, altogether dint cost me more than Rs.1500 which seems to be very much economical than the commercially available products. Since i made it my-self i was able to make a proper room for it so that it fits my place perfectly .

Hardware required:

  1. SELEC - 600DT timer
  2. 230V Indicator Lights (Red and Green in my case)
  3. Casing for the setup
  4. Connecting wires (Based on current rating of your load)

Step 1: Set the Timer to Your Required Function.

It is not a rocket science to use this timer provided, you have the data sheet of it. I have attached the datasheet in this step. If you are still confused on how to use it, go back to introduction and click on my YouTube video where I would have explained how to set it using the datasheet.

Step 2: Wiring and Casing

The above image shows how to wire things up, select the thickness of your wire based on the current rating of your load. The timer itself is a Rail mount device hence you can use a rail to mount it or just hot glue it as I have done it.

The wooden box along with it's indicator lights are shown above. The timer is set to 12 minutes as shown in below figure. The timer is triggered once the motor is turned on the ON-Delay function of timer is used to trip the reply from motor to a LED(red color) after 12 minutes.

I luckily got some carpentry tools in my home and hence i was able to make this casing, You can buy an ordinary box make a pair of holes and push the Indicator lights in and seal the box with the timer inside to make it simple.

Once the wiring and casing is done, check for any shot circuits using the connectivity option in your multi meter and that's it.. :-) connect your motor and test it.

It has been more than 2 years since I have installed this project and we use the motor thrice a day, it just works fine.
