i was just wondering as heating potassium nitrate is very dangerous is it possible to caremalize the sugar in a pan and then pour on the potassium nitrate and mix?

On the contrary, it's rather safe. You won't hit the melting point of potassium nitrate in this, so you only need to protect yourself using gear to prevent inhalation (and the likes) of particles. That said, I'd get a pan or cooker just for pyrotechnics especially. I wouldn't want to use a pan that formulated rocket fuel (this is rcandy, but bi carb slows the reaction down, try it with no bi carb and add red iron oxide) from something that's not intended to be eaten.

i have a question: what is "dye"? i'm german and i dont know howto transtlate the word. i googled it and there was a page which translated it with "färben" (i would translate it to english as "colorize"). but that cant be, cause its a verb, and so it cant be the name of a substance. can you tell me 1) what its called in german 2) what its made of (formula) or 3) what name it is sold as in german or USA?

kno3 is potassium nitrate. Gunpower is a mixture of charcoal, sulphur, and potassium nitrate.

Are there any smoke bombs w/out potassium Nitrate? I mean... that stuff can be hard to get- or in the case of stump remover kinda' expensive.

I have been making smoke grenades for 6 months and this is the first one that messed up. The hole was too small in the smoke grenade so I couldn't fit the pull pin. I could have put in my homemade fuse but I was too lazy. So I used my torch. the thing is I used electrical tape and it wouldn't burn so I had to pause and then play when it was ready. The bad thing is that I pressed play after 10 second of the smoke grenade. so it didn't show a lot of smoke.

will a garden fertilizer with 60% of KNO3 work as the salt petre?
Nov 16, 2008. 4:57 PMshadus
says:
It actually doesn't matter. It works well from 3:2 up to 5:3 (9:6 - 10:6) and even at greater and lesser concentrations it works acceptably well it just either burns more vigorously or is harder to start depending on which way you skew the formula. As often as not I've done by using standard kitchen measuring cups event though that is far less exact than doing it by weight.

Salt Petter is also known as "blue stone" which is sold in alot of restricted countries. I got it at a pharmacy in Thailand and in South Africa (SA is has very strict laws). so try looking for that label instead.
I looked for BlueStone all the day, can't find any. What is it, what it do? What is the product name?
