Ingredients: Snow

It was a really warm day with lots of wet snow that was perfect for making snow balls. Make sure that you have an excellent pair of gloves, or at least two or three cheap pairs to change into during this project!

Step 1: Giant Snow Pile

Start by making a giant well compacted snow pile. This one was about knee high and at least 3 feet in diameter.

Step 2: Add the Legs

Now that you have a snow pile, make two snow ball columns up the middle of the pile. These will be the front legs. Start adding thicker snow ball columns up the sides for the back legs.

Make the bottoms of these columns giant as to look like paws.

Add more snow to the head so that it is not too big or small.

***** It's a good idea to stand back from your masterpiece and take a good look at it every now and then. That way you can tell if you have any spots that need more/less snow*****

Step 3: Finishing Touches

When you are forming the head to make it look like a dog remember important features like the ears and the snout. Here I have floppy ears on either side of this puppy's head which was done by adding snowballs around the top of the head (the same way earmuffs would fit on a persons head). After there was enough snow on the head from the snowballs, I then smoothed it all out. Before it was smoothed out, the snow puppy looked more like a snow lion. That's an idea for next year ;)

The nose and eyes were just very compacted snowballs that were slammed into place.
