Introduction: Snowman Snow Flake Ornament

In this ornament design, I have meshed elegant, intricate, and eye catching snowflake patterns with the fun idea of a snowman. Adding a blue LED on the inside that would shine through the snowflakes would make this ornament even more beautiful. I did all of the modeling in the student version of Autodesk Inventor Professional. I am 12 years old and this is my first inscrutable so I hope you enjoy!

Step 1: Download the STL File

I have included a cap to the snow man for the ease of adding a throwie to the inside of the snowman. If you are not adding an LED just download the snowman. MAKE SURE TO SCALE THE MODEL 8 TIMES ITS ORIGINAL SIZE For some reason witch I cannot figure out Inventor keeps exporting STLs way too small. I rendered the model in watercolor just for fun.

Step 2: Slice and Dice!

The next step is to slice the model. I am using Cura in conjunction with an Ultimaker 2 and the following setting have worked well for me:

2 shells

support (needs support inside the snowflakes if using FDM printer)

brim

100 micron layer rez.

print speed - 70mm/sec

If you use a different slicer or printer than feel free to ignore these settings or adapt them to you needs.

Step 3: Print!

Here are some pointers if you are planning to print this. I would recommend printing in PLA. You will have less issues overall. And structurally it doesn't matter what material this is printed in, so I would go with PLA. Color is totally up to you but if you want to put a light in it, I think it would look best in white or translucent white. Happy Holidays and Happy 3D printing! :)
