Introduction: Sock Skeleton

Make a spooky, humanoid version of the traditional sock monkey. You'll need a pair of crew socks, needle, thread, scissors, stuffing material, and a laundry marker or fabric paint marker.

Step 1: Sock #1- the Body and Legs of the Skeleton

Turn sock #1 inside out and flatten it so that the heel is facing you. Make a cut from the cuff of the sock to the point where the heel starts and round the ends where the "feet" will be.

Step 2: Sock #1

With the skeleton body still inside out, sew the legs up, making sure to leave a hole where the legs meet the body for stuffing.

Step 3: Sock #1

Turn the skeleton body right side out, stuff it (I used polyester fiberfill), and sew up the opening.

Step 4: Sock #1

I wound and sewed some thread a couple of times around the jawline area to define the skeleton's skull. I also gave the skeleton a waist using the same method.

Step 5: Sock #2: the Arms

Cut off the footie part of the sock and reserve the "leg" part for the arms. Cut the leg part in half length-wise, cut one end of each leg into a curve (the "hand") and turn them inside out. Sew up the sides and leave an open end for stuffing.

Step 6: Attaching Arms to Body

Stuff the arms and sew them to the body. Remember to tuck in the edges of the armhole so that you don't have some dumb frayed edge sticking out.

Step 7: Adding Skeleton Details

Now's the time to test your drawing skills. Find some reference images or use your imagination to draw your skeleton's bits and pieces and don't forget the back.

Step 8: Optional Details

I ended up styling this skeleton with some flame-red hair, a little crochet flower thing and a wee pearl necklace because I thought she needed some flair.
