Sock wreathes are a good way to turn excess unpaired socks or socks with holes into neat looking art.

Step 1: Materials

You will need at least 50 socks with holes, unpaired socks, or otherwise no longer useful socks. My wreath used 180. If you can't find these for free from your friends, family, and coworkers check out http://usedsocksworld.com/category/new.htm . You will also need a needle, thread, thimble, and something long and thin to push the socks into each other like a drumstick.

Step 2: Sock Rolling

Place a sock on your foot and roll it down your leg until only 1 to 2 inches of the toe area has not been rolled.

Step 3: Connect the Sock Donuts

Make several sock donuts depending on the desired length of the wreath and insert them into each other using something long and thin, like a drumstick.

Step 4: Sew the Sock Donuts Together

This step is the most time consuming. With a long needle you can securely sew two sock donuts onto the row at once. I made a circle of stitches from the inside of the top and knotted the thread every two stitches in case the thread breaks. This is a good task to do while watching television or talking to friends at home.

Step 5: Decide on Length

Continue adding socks until you have reached your desired length. The socks can be left in this form and be used as a support for correct posture while sleeping.

Step 6: Wind and Attach

Wind the chain of socks into a circle on a flat surface. Beginning at the center, sew the inside row to the outside row leaving 5 to 7 inches between connections. After you sew the first connection between two to three sock donuts, gently pull the row around the circle so that the wreath will hang tightly without gaping between connections. Continue until the entire length has been sewn to itself.
