How about making a guide How to make a soldering iron out of a radio transitor, a toster and some duck tape? PS: never forget the power of the DUCK TAPE!!!!!!!!!
Jan 10, 2009. 12:34 PMDYLEGO says:
I would call that a waste of money when you can just go to radioshack and buy a Soldering Iron for $10. Plus, how would you make toast? What if you ran out of duct tape? Then you'd have none for your other projects... DYLEGO

yup i just got one there for 6 99 and it was a 30 watt

It has been almost a year, so how is you iron holding up for you? I see you're talking in the past tense about it already. You get what you pay for you know? I've had a few Rat Shack irons over the years myself and none are still in working order or any were too good to begin with either.
Jul 18, 2011. 11:41 AMsillyzombie666 says:
i've already swapped the tip on it but still works fine, i got a second at christmas and finally used that one last night for a game cube repair but that ended in disaster since it was to far wrecked. but for under $10 you cant go wrong on the radio shack irons. the stores near me tend to have a bigger selection now they ever have soldering led kits and some micro controllers
Jan 15, 2009. 6:51 PMmmould03 says:
WTF do you mean run out of duck tape? If you run out, you let yourself get WAY too low. And anyway, if you you do it right, you can keep the toaster functional...make breakfast while you solder - Multitasking 101.

i dont think i need to eat lead-flavored toast, thanks...
Apr 13, 2011. 11:40 AMshannonlove says:
The Romans used lead as flavoring so its taste isn't unpleasant. On the other hand the Romans' favorite condiment was garum, a "sauce" made by rotting fish whole in salt brine, so maybe we shouldn't take our culinary clues from them.

it is really surprising how people argue to prove their point and this is what makes this site sweet and fun!
Jan 16, 2009. 12:51 PMMr.Ownage says:
Emmmm I dont think that taste good but if you were dying of hunger...
Mar 6, 2009. 3:42 PMRadioactive_Legos says:
...it would kill you anyway because lead is poisonous.
Jul 18, 2011. 9:22 AMpfred2 says:
Lead isn't exactly arsenic ingested. It could lead to developmental problems over a long term of exposure, if you're still developing that is. By and large lead is a pretty innocuous substance though for adults. Unless you catch a projectile of it in a bad place traveling at a high enough velocity i.e. get shot, then lead poisoning can kill you!
Oct 16, 2010. 12:16 PMSaturn V says:
Only in large enough ammounts is lead poisonous. You can have some lead in your system, but you still need to be careful.

Jan 12, 2009. 3:46 PMDYLEGO says:
not much of a joke... plus, if you knew what a joke was, you'd see there was one hidden in my reply.

"Plus, how would you make toast?" You see? I found it =P

has a hot glue gun-esque soldering iron been invented? if not im gonna invent one (like that will happen) but really do they exist?
Mar 2, 2010. 12:59 AMlasersage says:
OK after some research apparently they do exist, but cost a lot. I'm sure you could make your own for less

that is a great idea, no more needing a third hand! Kind of like a really tiny mig welder right?

Noahw doesn't actually make the guides. Noahw is just like a middleman. You tell him what you want to make a guide of, and if he likes it, he lets you make it. Then it is posted under his name...
Jan 10, 2009. 6:35 PMnoahw says:
I'm no middleman! Those guys jack up prices, and I'm a staunch supporter of buying wholesale. Only admins ca
Jan 10, 2009. 6:45 PMnoahw says:
Weird, my entire comment didn't post. Anyway, as I was saying...only the Instructables staff can write guides right now. All the ones I posted under my own name are my own. As =SMART= commented, I'm a guide machine!
Jan 11, 2009. 3:17 AM=SMART= says:
you wanna make me an overseas guide maker :P
Jan 10, 2009. 7:23 PMDYLEGO says:
Wait, so you've stopped allowing users to create guides? Why'd you do that? I guess that's why the only guides I've seen recently are by you and fungusamungus...
Jan 10, 2009. 10:33 AM=SMART= says:
No the ones under his name are his, i made a guide and thats under my name

I'll do one.....eventually
Dec 27, 2008. 10:54 AMAnarchistAsian says:
i don't really see the point, it's other peoples ibles, so i'd only do it if i was really bored, but if i was that bored, i'd probably do something else, like memorize pi to 30 digits, like i did yesterday...

w00 w00!!!!! go asians!!!!!!!!
Dec 27, 2008. 1:59 PMomnibot says:
coz it makes guides to several on teh same subject?
Dec 27, 2008. 7:02 PMAnarchistAsian says:
well, it makes sense to look at, but it seems pointless to make them, because anyone could, and it's other peoples ibles....
