To build a steadicam need

1. Flat piece of sheet metal with a length of 1 m and a width of 30mm.

2. Handle of drill

3. Socket wrench 3/8 inch

4. Washer Screw 28mm - 13 pcs

5. Ball bearing, 12mm inside width

6. Cork mat

7. Knob with M6 screw

8. Cardan joint 1/4 inch

9. Screw the hat with a length of 60 mm

10. Nut with ears M6

11. Angle Grinder

12. Model glue

13. Heat-shrink tubing

14. Knife

15. A little time and patience

16. Clamps

Step 1: Adapter holder and counterweight

M6 nut hit with the force of a socket wrench 3/8 inch. Then arrange all screw washers in the stack, and assumes heat shrink. This is to look in the same way as in the picture.

Step 2: The main element of steadicam

Dimension strip for mounting the camera - 6mm width, lengths are 125mm < --- It is located in the center of the element. You can see it in the foto

Strap assembly and adjustment handles - 6mm width, lengths are 135mm <--- It is located in the center of the element. You can see it in the foto.

Strap to adjust the load - 6mm width, lengths are 410mm <--- The distance from the bottom of the metal end 20mm. It stretches from the bottom to the top of the length 410mm.

Place the top piece of metal where it will be mounted camera is leveled. After completing all the work we send metal powder coating. If the metal back of the painting, we move on to the next step

Step 3: Rotating handle

Bearing teamed with cardan joint and fastened in the holder as foto. In such a way that the bearing mounted on the rotary movement allowed Cardan 1/4 inch. Bearing the handle is glued to the glue. Next step

Step 4: The camera bracket

We take the cork mat. We measure the upper part of my metal where the camera is mounted. Then cut a piece of dimensions such as the upper part of the steadicam. We cut a hole in the middle of the cork mat for the screw 1/4 inch. Check to see if it fits. Next step

After matching a piece of cork mat smear her modeling glue in the same way as in the picture and glue it to the top of the steadicam. After sticking the cork mat lined with pieces of wood and vice clamps. Leave for several hours to dry. Next step

Step 6: Installation of movable handle

Tighten the holding fixture put in the middle part of steadicam as in the picture and screw cap with pressed nut M6. Cap and cardan pasujądo each other and can be removed by fitting 1/4 inch. We combine the handle and move on. Next step

Step 7: Installation of counterweight

Counterweight to assemble using the screw with a hat with a length of 60mm and screw cap with ears. The counterweight is adjustable over the entire length of the cut hole with a screw. Each counterweight should be determined individually for the camera. Counterweight can be quickly disconnected by a screw, does not cause a problem in the area. I made a few weights to the various cameras and wear them with steadicam in a case. All are made of washers and joined shrinkable sleeve. Next Step

Step 8: Ready steadicam

In my everything is ok. Looking at the performance of your do not have any heart nothing in performance. Your performance is simply not aesthetically pleasing and accurate. Look at mine. I'm a man thoroughly, and if I create something I try to do the best I can.

I made this, but I am not sure I can recommend it.

I found that there is some strange movements from the steadycam, that I think came from the cross coupling of the 2 axis from the Cardan-Joint. The 2 rotational axis of the Cardan-joint are slightly offset(1/8~1/4 in.), which when the handle are move or twisted, the camera will move unpredictably, I think it is because the CG shifts and don't align with one of those axis when the handle is moved... Think this will be better if it use a true Cardan-joint, then all 3 of the axis intersect at a point.

Some people have more free time than they do money in the bank; isn't that one aspect, of others, of DIY?

And, sometimes, DIY is because of the pleasure of doing something by yourself, and not just solving a need at the lowest possible cost. Of course, the last motivation is not just respectable but more than logical and a good beginning.

I was not replying to the merits, which there are many, of making something yourself.

I was addressing the off-made assertion in "Instructables" that a certain project is a fraction of the cost of a commercial product yet the person making that claim never factors in the cost of their time.

I make plenty and do plenty of things that I can purchase for a fraction of the cost but I am under no illusion that I am saving money doing so.

As for the more time than money in the bank argument, at least you're doing a cost benefit analysis and not merely stating, without evidence, that "I'm saving money doing this".

I am an electrician understands it that my time is valuable. Doing something for myself unless I will not pay yourself? For me it is a pleasure to do something like this class steadicam low cost. Prefer to do the same steadicam for $ 20 than to buy the same for 100

Would you be able to make a video to show how well it works? We also would like to see the camera mounted on the stabilizer when you move it... to see if it really is stable.
