Depending on where you are in Colorado look for a Whole Foods or Vitamin Cottage....any kind of place of that nature. If you are military you can get them at a commissary that is where I get mine. I grew up in GA and moved to Colorado 7 years ago and occassionally make boiled peanuts. They are a must have!!!!

I'm boiling peanuts this morning and wanted some new ideas. You're addition of smoked neck bones is a stroke of genius! I'm off to the grocery store to get some. Thanks!

Boiled my peanuts with recommendation and they were fabulous! One thing I did wrong (and you might have mentioned this) was, I put the peanuts in the fridge after we had gorged on them. The next morning, there was a lot of nasty congealed fat. I don't know how remedy this. I thought of rinsing the nuts in hot water, but the salty shells are part of the magic of boiled peanuts. Any suggestions?

Hey. Thanks for this. I've heard about this and really wanted to try it, but, being in Canada I doubt I can buy raw peanuts. Everything's from Planters and is either fried or dry roasted. Can anyone tell me where I can actually buy raw peanuts to try this?

Check your local Super Walmart in the produce or any place you find fresh produce. You might find some. Or if you know anyone that drives a truck that delivers Vooterman cookies south, have one of them to pick you up some (or any trucker that comes into the deep south). I know they come south cause the pick up shelled green peanuts where my hubby works sometimes. Shelled green peanuts can be boiled, but they are not as good as those boiled in the shell. As a matter of fact, someone that worked where hubby does now use to boil shelled peanuts with neckbone and bring leftovers for lunch (or that is the story he was told).

Sorry but the smoked neckbone ruins them for me. I prefer plain salt or a little crab and shrimp boil. Now is the time for boiled peanuts while you can still find fresh green peanuts. The best ones are if you know someone digging up a field and they don't mind you getting a pickup load and picking them off yourself.

I am in Dothan but have never boiled peanuts myself. An employee of mine brought me a bag of peanuts this morning and since my daughter loves them boiled I googled to get instructons. What a surprise to find someone with Dothan roots to instruct me! Thank you!

are these like goobers? my dad brought them back from a business trip one time and they were boiled peanuts with the shell still on.

Yep. That's what goobers are.

I always thought goober was just another term for peanut. Does it specifically refer to a boiled peanut? If so, I gotta go try me some of them goobers. They sound tasty tasty.

another (very popular) way we do this in india is to boil the peanuts with salt and water in a pressure cooker(saves gas).then the nuts are served hot....i have 2 variations to this preparation... 1..throw some butter on the peanuts while they are hot and serve immediately(divine!!) 2..after boiling shell the peanuts add chopped onion, tomato, corriander, chilli powder and (smashed!!) garlic..serve cold(divine-er!!!)

Not quite sure what you are suggesting, but I think you are backing me up. Or insulting me. Either way, my warning was added and perhaps someone is a little more safe as a result.

I love boiled peanuts. I usually do them in my crockpot overnight. It takes longer but I don't have to watch it as closely.

Sorry, I didn't check my email to see your comment until today. I usually cook them on low for about 8 hours, this way I can start them at night and they're ready in the morning or start them before work and they're ready when I get home. I do start testing some peanuts after about 6 hours though but it seems to take 8 for them to be perfect. I suppose you could set the crock pot on high and cook them for around for hours for similar results. But I always test them before turning off the pot. They will start to sink after only a few hours but the nuts may not be soft enough for a few hours after that.

Being a Southern Gent myself (Savannah, GA) I applaud you. If you want to speed up the process you may use a pressure cooker. You produce smaller quantities but much more quickly. Pressure cook for aprox. 30 min. then let sit without heat and under pressure for 30-45 min. Times should be adjusted for quality of the peanut (i.e. more time for tougher older nuts and for your taste in softness and flavoring).

I am from the South as well (raised in Tampa no less.) I moved to England and Scotland for a while and missed these so much. The thing that kills me in Tampa is that Publix grocery stores charge $3-4 a pound for the raw peanuts! Come on, where in the South. There are peanut farms 2 hours away! Shame on Publix.

Do they taste any different then non-boiled peanuts?

everyone i know, eats the shell and all, pop 'em whole, we use "ol' bay" seasoning, some people use crab boil mix for flavor, this looks good with the smoked pork,

Great Instructable! I live in Ohio, and had not heard about this delicious treat until my home school video class teacher mentioned them. (He was from the south) they sounded very odd to me... But then I went to Southern Tennessee and they were selling them on the road side, so I gave them a try and LOVED them! I can't wait to make them... :-D thanks!

Awesome! I was back in Georgia this week but didn't manage to get any boiled peanuts, sadly. I love 'em, so I'll have to try this out. Thank you!
