Space Phone

This is a toy similar to two cans connected with a string to be used as a communication device. Instead of creating voices this device creates sounds similar to what you would hear in star trek or star wars. I have seen these available commercially but thought that it would be really easy to make on my own. The design is simple, just a really big spring and two plastic cups. The key to the design is the large spring and the diaphragm. The spring may be hard to find, the diaphragm is crucial because if it doesn't vibrate correctly you won't get the cool space like sound out of it.

The materials you will need for this are Two Solo cups, a large spring, and a thumb tack

luckily my physics teacher had them kicking around in his classroom, i have no clue what it would have been used for. im sure a screen door spring would work just fine though
