Speaker lamp hack

In this Instructable I will show you how to turn an ordinary bed-side lamp into a unique speaker to use with your stereo system or ipod / mp3 player. Once you complete your very own speaker lamp, you'll be able to bend it around however you like and rock out to your vavorite tunes.


What you will need:

supplies:

large speaker

bendy lamp

solder

shrink tubes



tools:

soldering iron

hot glue gun
(or anything that will hold your speaker to your lamp)

wire cutters / strippers

screw driver

Step 1 Remove bulb and socket

The first thing you need to do is remove the light bulb and the socket.

just un screw the bulb and then cut the wires that are conected to the socket but make sure you don't cut them too short or els you will have no room to solder.

thanks alot! i wasn't sure what to expect from this i dont really know anything about circutry just very simple basics and yeah its not very loud if you are useing the headphone plug its probly better to use with a sterio or tv or something that has its own power

With a little bit of work, you could easily build an amplifier circuit into the space behind the speaker, in the cone, and replace the turn-style lamp switch with a volume potemtiometer! I'm gonna try this as soon as i get home, it looks damn sexy

couldn't you amplify the power from your ipod and make it louder somehow?

that speaker is passive though so it wont be very loud. great instructable

I love this hack, definitely a good use for old speakers and broken lamp. Inconspicuous yet blatantly obvious, ingenious and well made to boot. Great Instructable!
