Step 1Disclaimer and what you need

disclaimer and what you need
hi!

first of all the disclaimer:

***Disclaimer*** The following is for informational purposes only, I take no responsibility for what you do with this knowledge.

it is just a prototype in the pictures, i did not care the welding and soldering so its a bit a mess. :)

what you need:

- 1x DC-Motor 10 or 12V (10 is better)
- 3x 6A diodes (in my case i needed 6A diodes, you will select yours according to the power of your motor)
- you can use a diode-bridge instead of the 3 Diodes.
- some meter of wire
- 1x old Hi-Fi.
- 1x switch(optional)
- 1x plane model propeller

Ma questo bisogna connetterlo all'uscita audio del pc?

Hi ! Nice tutorial but i don't understand how to connect the motor to the pc? does it work if i connect it to a 3.5 jack and then plug it into the audio card? if this is correct, i think it would be posible to connect it even to a mobile phone that has a 3.5 hub? a hi-fi = a sound system? or it means nothing? i see that in the second picture you've tagged a shadow with hi-fi.. :|

there is a problem, this stuff only works with the sound... if we play to a car's game, there is always sound, so the modulation of motor is always at the max...

this would definately work with x-plane because you have that freaking annoying roar, but that is usually why i switch to the outside view just to make it shut up lol. and outside is where the wind would really be maybe if i got real close to the plane... well whatever good instructable 4.5 stars

Does any one know how i could work out the 'impedence' of the moter so i would know how to place it instead of a speaker?

hi
I would hazard a guess that the reason the motor works better with the extra diode is because of back emf (a.k.a counter emf, cemf and counter electromotive force). also if you used a stepper motor and the right circuitry then it would change speed depending on the frequency. that would be better in a way because on car/bike games the faster you go the higher frequency the revs get to (until you change gear).

I laughed for about 3 minutes at this... "...come off and shoot into your face!" lol Really a cool idea by the way.

where did you get the coaster game?

that is cool

How much larger of a scale can this be preformed on? For example, one of those fans that stand up and are plugged into an outlet in the wall.
Feb 16, 2008. 7:06 PMGrey_Wolfe says:
The best thing about this is that it is something that absolutely no one needs, yet we all would love to have one. lol Excellent idea, btw. You should think about prettying it up and getting a patent. Companies like MadCatz would sell something like this. Just a thought.
May 27, 2008. 1:19 AMGrey_Wolfe says:
The fact that they actually started selling it only two weeks later does say they were doing it first. But still you could sell it, just make sure yours looks and works differently. Or just pretty the up and sell on eBay. lol. I saw yours first, so my vote goes to you.

Cool project, i like the way you think, by the way, if you dont have a old HI-FI, you could buy a 3.5 mm Audio jack from maplins (or radio shack) and attach the wires in there, then you could plug it into the Rear speaker jack on your pc. id acctully love to have this when im playing my GT pro seris on Wii, anyway, nice project and good luck with future ones

by the way, i forgot to say that i think that video used Roller Coaster Tycoon 3

this is awsum! i dont need it but want to make it anyway!!! also, realy great idea for the video (using a duster to show the power)

hey cool instructable man, definetely making this for my 360. I was just wondering if you could do a mod for a psp slim. no worries if u cant its just an idea i thought of. thanks

DUDE! this is sweet! i want to make it and use it in roller coaster tycoon 3.

Awesome, coolest idea, definably making this!..although there cud be more info bout the Hi-Fi connections, but no big;) But don't leave it to there, make a chair as well! (Y)

all 3 diode numbers are P600M yes i am building it is it dangerous
Sep 28, 2007. 12:51 AMmadaanshivam says:
what is the diode number
Sep 26, 2007. 6:43 AMscotty3785 says:
Diode 'in the middle' prevents the motor from going in the wrong direction. Best guess would suggest that the other two diodes are used to drop the voltage across the motor, so if you put 12 across the whole assembly then approx 1.2-1.4v will be dropped across the diodes and the remainder will be across the motor
Sep 26, 2007. 7:26 AMchavez00001 says:
one in the middle is a flyback diode. prevents spikes going back to your circuit when motor is stopped.
Sep 26, 2007. 1:59 PMCosmostrator says:
Looks like you have made a half wave rectifier. If you add in one more diode you can rectify the whole wave, and get nearly twice the power. Check out http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/diode.htm#bridge for how to wire it.
