The materials you will need are: Two paper clips, an elastic, magnet wire, a D battery, a ruler, and a magnet.
The tools you will need are: A pair of pliers, wire cutters (sometimes built into the pliers as shown in the picture) and a piece of sandpaper.
Take a Arms length of magnet wire, maybe a little extra if you have shorter arms.
Wrap the wire around the battery snugly for shape. Leave about 2 inches of wire on opposite sides of the coil. It should be wrapped tightly as shown in the picture.
Wrap the ends that you left until their position is secured. There should be about an inch and a half of wire left on either side.
It should look like this.
have one end of the wire so half the red paint is off and shave the other end so the red is completely off. MAKE SURE TO SHAVE COMPLETELY.
Wrap the rubber band around the battery the long way twice.
Bend the inside section of the paper clips out and bend them into this shape.
Put your bent paperclips on opposite sides of the battery make sure that it is secure and each paperclip touches the metal ends of the battery.
Place the magnet on the battery between the two paper clips.
Place the coil on the paper clips and watch your motor spin! (put your motor on a ruler to keep it from rolling around)
