Last week, I had an email from one on my blog's readers that requested me to show him "How to make decorative ropes" and this picture was attached.
I searched and find some tutorials like this and this video, and after connecting them, finally found the trick and I'm here to share it with you!

*The video did by my brother, Farid Bayan.
*Persian language version of this instructable is available Here.

yea, by reversing sides alternately you will in fact get a flat version and going left to right will create spiral in one direction while right to left creates it in the other direction. you can also add more core lines so you can leave out the outer ones every few knots and get little loops in it
Good picture quality and clean thorough instructable! I used to make hemp jewelry and I think I used these knots a lot. I think, if you reverse the directions on the knots it will make the spiral go the opposite direction, and if you alternate directions it will make square knots. I could be wrong though, my memory tends to get foggy. Which with that logic another word for the spiral knot could be the half square knot?

Anyways, great instructable, and good luck in making many more great ones in the future.
Just in case anyone one was wondering I'm pretty sure that this is the same knot that's is used in paracord bracelets
The knot used in survival bracelets is called a cobra weave. different cause you go over and under then over and alternate sides.
I think it is too, but in those you use the same direction of the knot each time so it lays flat. I think Crystalline_Chaos is correct, if you alternate directions you will make it spin...and I think you can switch it and go the other way in mid-stream as well...if you pay attention.

Totally right, as Crystalline said, "if you reverse the directions on the knots, it will make the spiral go the opposite direction".
how do you make the turns in the spiral?
farzadbayan (author)  endeavourkid3 years ago
Just make the knots and the turns will made completely automatic! That means, you don't need to do anything, just you should make knot and your rope will become spiral.
