Introduction: Spreeman Family Nut Bread Recipe

Picture of Spreeman Family Nut Bread Recipe

A tradition at Thanksgiving and Christmas family meals is the wonderful family recipe of Nut Bread. It's incredibly delicious. Everyone asks for the recipe, and it is simple to make!

Preheat oven to 335 degrees (I know this sounds like an odd number, but if cooked at 350, then the edges of the bread tends to get over-cooked).

Grease a loaf pan (I use a metal pan) the ceramic pans don't seem to have such a perfect finished product.

****************************************************************************************************************************

2 1/2 cups of flour (do not sift)

1 cup of sugar

3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

3 tablespoons of oil (like Mazola, Wesson, etc.) but not virgin olive oil

1 1/4 cups of milk

1 egg

1 teaspoon (scant) salt

1 heaping cup of nuts (walnuts, pecans)

**********************************************************************************************************************************

Put all the ingredients (except the nuts) into an electric mixer bowl and beat thoroughly. May need to scrape the sides of the bowl. Add the nuts and manually mix by hand. Spread the batter in the pan and the trick is to have it evenly spread as the center rises so try to get extra batter on the ends of the pan that way the middle of the loaf isn't "doughy."

Cook for 60 minutes and test with a toothpick. Cook additional 5 minutes if needed.

Serve warm or cool with butter or cream cheese.

Enjoy! Linda Spreeman

Thanks! I did add a picture (although the picture really doesn't speak to the awesome recipe) and I'm not much of a photographer! I will consider adding to the Heirloom Recipe, it appears as if there are quite a few terrific entries there already (with some great recipes I can't wait to try). Season's Greetings to all.

Sounds great. If you make it for Thanksgiving, you should take some pictures and post them. Also enter it in the Heirloom recipe contest.
