Introduction: Springles Can Bird House (tee Ise Linnumaja)

One day a tit flew behind my window and demanded food. I left some buck wheat behinf my window on the subsill and since then the tits have been coming to eat it. They make quite a lot of noise on the subsill with their feet and wake me up in the morning so I decided to build them a house. After finishing a pack of Pringles last night I chose the can as the main material for the house.

---

Ühel päeval lendas mu aknale tihane ja nõudis süüa. Puistasin aknaplekile tatratangu ja tihased aina sõid. Nad tegid aknaplekile lennates päris kõva lärmi ja ajasid mind hommikuti üles. Seetõttu otsustasin neile maja ehitada. Kasutasin peamise majamaterjalina tühjaks söödud Pringlesi krõpsutoru.

Step 1: Supplies

These are some of the things I needed. I also used a kitchen knife, a see through tape, a needle and some yarn and a piece of cardboard.

---

Step 2: Deciding on the Shape

I decided to make a fairly simple bird house with one (and the same) hole in front for filling it with seeds and for the birds to get the seeds. I then drew the shape of the hole on the Pringles can.

---

Otsustasin, et teen väga lihtsa linnumaja. Ühe auguga, mille kaudu saab toitu juurde panna ja linnud saavad sama augu kaudu toidu kätte. Joonistasin maja kuju krõpsutoru peale.

Step 3: Cutting It Out

Besides cutting the hole in the can with the kitchen knife I also cut the can a lot shorter. It's actually possible to make 2 houses out of one can but you'd have to make a base and a top out of cardboard for the other one.

---

Step 4: Covering the Can

NB! Wipe or wash the greasy inside of the can before covering it with tape.
I covered the can and the cut edges with tape to make it waterproof. I first used the brown one to cover the (ugly) red and then covered it with the see through one just in case.
If you want a cool or pretty looking house you can first cover it with pieces of newspaper or colorful napkins or whatever and then tape it over to make it waterproof.
I also attached the lid with tape.

---

NB!

Step 5: Holes for the Yarn

I drilled holes in the can with scissor tips. I made them on four sides of the upper part of the can and then put one piece of yarn in two holes and another piece across the first yarn through the second two holes.

---

Torkasin torusse kääriotstega augud. Tegin neli auku üksteisest võrdsetele kaugustele majakese ülaserva. Ühe jupi lõnga tõmbasin kahest vastastikku asetsevast august läbi, teise jupi lõnga nendega risti aukudest läbi.

Step 6: Almost Ready to Be Hanged

I then tied the four ends of the yarn in a knot. I left one end of the yarn longer so I could use it for hanging the house.

---

Sidusin nelja lõngajupi otsad kokku. Ühe jupi ühe otsa jätsin pika, et saaksin sellega majakese üles riputada.

Step 7:

I don't have a hook outside my window for the bird house and I'm not interested in getting on either. Thus I needed to figure out another way to attach the house. I made two holes into a piece of cardboard and put the long end of the yarn through those holes. Now I can put the house outside my window but leave the piece of card board inside to hold the house in place and hanging. Actually, the window does most of the holding but it's easier to put the house in place and take it off for filling it with seeds if the piece of cardboard is there.

---

Step 8: Ready to Be Hanged

The house is ready. The truth is it isn't the best looking bird house, it's rather functional than decorative (just like I prefer most things to be) but I'm sure the birds won't mind. ;)

---

Maja ongi valmis! :D
