Picture of Stained Glass Jello
Stained glass Jell-O is a fun, festive treat for holidays and parties.  Choose colors to represent the theme!  Here I went with red white and blue - great for 4th of July, Bastille Day, or even a brief appearance in the World Cup.

This would  be great in colors to represent your school or favorite sports team.  I originally saw this idea on the great blog, Just Jenn

Step 1: Ingredients

Picture of Ingredients
You can make this with up to 4 different colors/flavors of Jell-O.
  • 4 small boxes (3 oz. each)  or 2 large boxes (6 oz. each) of Jell-O or store brand gelatin  (I used one box of 6oz. berry blue one 6 oz. box of cherry)
  • 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk (NOT evaporated milk)
  • 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin  (the box I used was marked Net Wt. 1 oz - don't know if that means each envelope is one ounce or the entire package is one ounce)
  • Water

I made a multi coloured one for the MIL. She loves jelly and loved this. It tasted sorta like jelly and cream. I used the old school Tupperware jelly ring! Twas YUM!

Awesome! Those look better than mine! :D

I made it for my grandkids, two weeks before Halloween Party. I used orange and lime Jello. Made it for the 4th of July, looking for something to add to the table.

Can't wait to make it. Another fun Instructable. Thanks so much!!! :0)
has anyone tried making this with say almond or rice milk? We can't have dairy or soy in our house.... hmmmm....

Is there a substitute for the milk based jello? Can I use a light colored jello (peach) and milk base it?

Wow, fantastic! What colors did you use?
I never tried to use a milk product as a jello base. I will make sure to stir the mix with the gelatin and 1 and 1/2 cups hot water very well. Then stir in the milk..I keep stirring till the milk and gelatin get a chance to become one. Oh this is fun! as well as adds nutrition to the mixture. Great to have in the fridge for summer.
Making milk jello is sometimes called panna cotta. Makes a great and easy alternative for ice cream.

I can not wait to make this with my daughter! She loves Jell-O, sometimes we buy desserts like this from the supermarket, but this looks like such a fun project! Now I'm going to get a fun jello mold to make this in!!! Like a bunt.
Putting it in a bunt cake pan would look awesome!

I'd imagine you could also try it with those jello molds (I think the egg ones would be awesome, but I think it depends on how much of the two other color jellos you could fit in the molds to make it worth it.) I think this would be fun to try. I'm not a huge fan of jello but this would be fun to make with the kids.

ok... I'm a little late to this Party... but I have to say that this Jello Dessert is about the most BEAUTIFUL thing I've ever seen!
just made this yesterday and it turned out just OK but that is completely MY fault!

I accidentally left the red jell-O in the warm water too long and it started to melt the bottom so then when I mixed them up together I had lil flakes of red but the blue was perfectly square.

My mother in law has been making something like this for years and since we do potluck style Hawaiian parties she brings it to every event! Hers is layered with at least 6 different flavors but with a layer of the sweetened condensed milk/gelatin in between each layer. it's deffinatly a longer prosses but it comes out with more flavor.

this is good, but I'm just used to her version

I think I might try this again for my daughters birthday coming up but instead I think I might use 4 different flavors, and not melt the bottom!!

I'm wondering if I could make it even sweeter or would that be too odd, i dunno.

For the lazy ones, you can get ready-made jell-o snacks, and if you skip the milk part, it becomes a crystal salad :-)

Our family loves jello. I can't wait to try this. I see a new Christmas tradition....red and green. Thanks so much for the post!

I believe it's "jell-i" if it's plural. :)
can you use sugar free jello
I love it..a cool treat.. I wonder what it would be like to put fresh cherry bits in the blue jello. I know it may not keep as well. or add the chunks of fruit layered in with the red and blue jello before adding the milk layer. It reminds me of those white candy squares with the fruit in them.
I have this on my list to take to a plant and seed swap. We have a potluck picnic after the swap is over. I will set out slips of paper with the web address for "full instructions" on how to make this cool treat.

I'm going to try this recipe this weekend for the holiday weekend. It will be a nice departure from the regular pies and such. And you're right - who doesn't like Jell-O?! Many thanks for sharing all your recipes...

you should just use a ice CUBE try and that way it would prob save allot of time
Jello is hard to get out of ice cube trays, so it would actually make a bit more work... Plus, this way it looks more like stained glass, because non of the pieces are the same size or cut.

What great timing, I just learned how to make jello about a week ago, and have fallen for it completely (isn't this stuff great?!) Anyway, this is so cool that I think I'm going to make it for Christmas this year. Thanks!
So Scooch, is this like finger jello? Do you have a finger jello recipe? My dad can't seem to find one. Thanks!

It looks so pretty! If only I liked Jello :( This would be great to make and bring to a gathering though (even a non-summer gathering). The kids would love it.
the whole package is 1 oz - how many sachets where in your packet?
