This is a great Instructable, but you need to add a main image of the final project to the intro step. Please do that and leave me a message when you have so that we can publish your work. Thanks!
techno_pig (author) says: Jun 11, 2008. 5:23 PM
OK, I put the main image. Please publish this one only, I thought the other ones didn't work. Thank You!

rocketman7 says: Feb 12, 2012. 4:47 PM
this isn't a hack! This is some ASCII art animation written up by two guys who published it on Telnet!
Dark-player says: Jan 5, 2012. 4:31 PM
If this is a hack try: "telnet %%"
where %% is a link underneath:

WINTERMUTE.HOMEUNIX.COM
bbs.hispamsx.org
scn.org
tek1systems.com
warzone.dyndns.org

just some nice BBS for the console ...
keeflookeem says: Aug 9, 2011. 10:15 PM
You can also type "telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl".
This will also work in other OS's. In Mac, or other *nix environments, you just need to open a terminal and enter the same command.

In windows, under Vista and newer, you need to allow "telnet client" under the Programs and Features menu.

Not really a hack, but still very cool.
azzer98jf says: Jun 27, 2011. 12:25 PM

scratchr says: May 10, 2011. 8:07 PM
FYI: the command also works on linux.
XOIIO says: May 10, 2011. 8:41 AM
Not a hack, it's simply connecting telnet to a remote server, and this is pretty old but it's nice to see people still know about it.
CamWaite says: Mar 14, 2011. 1:16 PM
Not sure if anyone said but on vista and 7 you have to enable telnet as described here: http://www.fettesps.com/windows-7-enable-telnet/
Pantalaimonpan says: Jan 31, 2011. 3:10 PM
Wahh it won't load the telnet client I waited about 2 hours and it won't load!

Jimmy2190 says: Sep 4, 2010. 1:57 PM
Click the Start button , click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Turn Windows features on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. In the Windows Features dialog box, select the Telnet Client check box. Click OK. The installation might take several minutes.

eddahlen says: Nov 23, 2008. 10:17 PM
You can enable vista to allow telnet by going to:
Control Panel> Programs and Features> Turn Windows Features On and Off.

Scroll down the list and put a check next to Telnet Client. Let the computer configure. (took me about 2-3 minutes) Then it should work. =]

This isnt working for me sadly...
techno_pig (author) says: Jun 12, 2008. 5:49 PM
if you don't have internet it doesn't work. it is on a telnet protocol, which connects to the server at towel.blinkenlights.nl so no internet = no connect
TATcreator says: Apr 14, 2009. 2:29 PM
of course he has internet, if not how would he have left a message?
The Mollusk says: Jul 11, 2008. 12:37 AM
Lol how do you think he got to this site?
evilducky_00 says: Jan 8, 2009. 9:48 PM
This only works in XP if you have vista: Go to Start -> Control Panel - Programs and Features->"Turn Windows Features On or Off". Wait for it to load. Takes a while. Scroll down to the bottom and put a check "Telnet Client". Hit OK. Then wait for it to configure again takes a while. Then follow above instructions
