This is a great Instructable, but you need to add a main image of the final project to the intro step. Please do that and leave me a message when you have so that we can publish your work. Thanks!

this isn't a hack! This is some ASCII art animation written up by two guys who published it on Telnet!

If this is a hack try: "telnet %%"
where %% is a link underneath:

WINTERMUTE.HOMEUNIX.COM
bbs.hispamsx.org
scn.org
tek1systems.com
warzone.dyndns.org

just some nice BBS for the console ...

You can also type "telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl".
This will also work in other OS's. In Mac, or other *nix environments, you just need to open a terminal and enter the same command.

In windows, under Vista and newer, you need to allow "telnet client" under the Programs and Features menu.

Not a hack, it's simply connecting telnet to a remote server, and this is pretty old but it's nice to see people still know about it.

Not sure if anyone said but on vista and 7 you have to enable telnet as described here: http://www.fettesps.com/windows-7-enable-telnet/

Click the Start button , click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Turn Windows features on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. In the Windows Features dialog box, select the Telnet Client check box. Click OK. The installation might take several minutes.

You can enable vista to allow telnet by going to:
Control Panel> Programs and Features> Turn Windows Features On and Off.

Scroll down the list and put a check next to Telnet Client. Let the computer configure. (took me about 2-3 minutes) Then it should work. =]
