Ok, there we are, all done,

Final thoughts
- personally i think this came out very well, and i'm very proud of it
- I would have liked to of fitted more leds, but soldering ain't my strong point
- I whipped a quick stand out of a single rod of metal, this slots into a hole on the front bottom, and supports the weight happily.

Please leave any comments, be nice, stay relevant, and don't be afraid to suggest new ideas/ways of doing things.

you are the reason i signed up on this site.  thanks for putting these up, i want to make this so bad.  i am hopefully going to start tomorrow, im going to try to make this and your shotgun for an anime convevtion costume.  though i am personally going to use more wood that card for handles and such, i like the added weight.

C.O.O.L! You could replace the corrugated cardboard with similar those corrugated-cardboard-like plastic boards for a water-proof version. :)

Wow. Its Complicated. If I have the time, ill try and miniaturize and make it like 5x weaker so i dont kill anyone =P

Haha. If you make it a single stage coilgun, that's made to fit into a gun this size, power won't be an issue. For something this size you're going to be looking at something that might fire about 20-25 feet depending on the capacitor and power source that you use. I too want to make one of these into a single stage coilgun though.

I has an idea for semi auto or full auto coilgun. when you pull the trigger, it unblocks the mag handle and allows the bullet to go into a breached chamber. and so, if you hold the trigger, it unblocks it for all the time it takes for the bullets from the handle to go into the magnetic chamber and fire full auto. that was a mouthfull.

Don't forget that there's charge time in between each shot, and depending on the strength of the capacitor and the power source that you'll be using it'll take anywhere from 2-30 seconds to charge for each shot.

pretty badass but the handles a little bulky

I'll say this. If you're having trouble steampunking a weapon, use LEGO TECHNIC gears in some areas. Give them a slight paint job to look metal and you can use them sparingly to create grears that actually work together easily.

I've just found this site recently and have been exploring it. This is the first instructable that has prompted me to sign up and post. Coolest thing i've seen in a while! my only issue is that there is so much detail in the "metal" parts and so little on the handle. whip out the soldering iron and burn some simple details on the leather to make it pop.

yeah i was thinking the same thing, if i end up making this i'll semi follow your design for the 'metal' parts but i might try a more pirate-y flintlock type handle. with the wooden ball at the end for balance...you know what i mean. amazing though! i love the hinge action :D

I'll be damned if that isn't the most cyberpunk thing I've ever seen...congratulations...this will be part of my Halloween costume now.

sounds more like you you need to get out less :)

If you intend to take this out in public, consider painting the muzzle area in Blaze Orange, indicating that this is a toy. Depending on where you are and the context, police may not find displaying anything vaguely gun-like amusing.

Very impressive! Was this your first attempt?
May 29, 2008. 6:47 AMkrazmo says:
Looks cool, but you might want to consider adding some sort of sighting system to your future gun prop projects. All guns have them and it stands out when a prop gun doesn't. They never seem to aim in movies, but on real guns the sights are a critical feature. Nice work otherwise!

It would be awesome if it shot little bb's or something, but not too fast!
