Hello Guy's & Girls,

In this project i steampunked my Sony Discman/Cd-player.
It has somewhat of a wooden style, paint, tubes and some brass with a
working horn on top in the style of an old phonograph.
Looks funny if i may say so...

Greetings, Evin.

Nice job! Do you know what that woodgrain foil is called? I have project that might come in handy for...

Two suggestions: You might want to consider some gold or bronze metallic paint for the black plastic buttons and window frame. (You can pick this up at a hobby store for about two bucks... I used it for my Steampunk socket/switchplate to conceal the plastic sockets and switches).

And for the cable running to the horn, you might consider concealing it in a shoe lace, in the style of old fashioned cables, as I did with my Steampunk USB cable. Keep up the good work;-)

I've got a link for you for the foil.
Hope this can help you with it:

Saw the socket and the USB cable, sweet idea!

Thanx for the tips :)

Evinfire - Thanks for the link! I wonder if this would work for the steampunk laptop I've been thinking about.. Do you think it would work well covering a laptop?

I think so, if you buy a little thicker foil and adding it real good with rubbing/stroking
it on-tightening it that way...it's word the try.

Good luck!

Thank you for the compliment and tips mate!

I've tryed a old-look (Beige) holled-out shoe lace for the cable but it was too wide for it so, i'll look for a smaller one.
And, bought bronze paint a copple of day's ago :)
Got also some self-made-rust but have to sea if i'll use that on this project.

Time for a new update on the discman.
If it's finished i'll post it again.

Thanx again.

Ev.

Evinfire - One trick I've learned for lacing cables is that if the lace is a bit too fat (or loose) you can still pull it taught at both ends, after you've laced through the cable, and then hold it in place heat shrink tubing and/or a video connector plug.

Looking forward to he new pics!

How did you get the woodgrain look?
Evinfire (author) in reply to aaahotdogFeb 19, 2012. 2:36 PM
I straightened and tightened a type of foil that you can use for an inside door (to spice it up abit) and, stroked it so the brand name is visible and the corners look nice.
You can buy this at almost every hardware store.
