Peas can be found in a wide variety of shapes, forms and colors. One of the most interesting types of peas is snap peas . These peas are a cross between garden peas and snow peas; they can be easily identified as they sport a bright green coat and are located inside a pod. Some of the things that make these peas different are their crispy texture and a slightly sweet taste. In addition, with this type of peas you have the option of eating them either raw or cooked. Now, if you choose to have your peas cooked, there are about two ways to prepare them; you can either have them steamed or sautéed. Let’s look at some basic steps to follow if you choose to stem your snap peas:

1. Wash and Dry Peas Properly: As simple as this sounds many people may overlook this important step in preparing peas. When you are cooking peas, you shouldn’t overlook washing them properly. However, you should ensure that you wash your peas in a colander with some cold water. Don’t go to cook them right away, but take some time to dry them as well.

2. Examine Your Peas Thoroughly: The truth of the matter is that not all snap peas are without blemish. As a result, you should examine your peas carefully and remove those peas with too many blemishes. If you are not going to remove them, try cutting off the blemishes.

3. Chop off Ends: Your next step is to place your snap peas on a cutting board. When the peas are on the cutting board, you will have to cut off the end of both sides of the snap peas.

4. Fill Your Pot with Water: Try to get a 3-quart pot and fill it with water. This pot should be place on the stove with the right temperature. The right temperature will get your water to boil. Not only will it boil but steam will begin to come from the pot. Once it’s nice and steamy, you will need to put your peas inside the netted steamer. Afterwards, the netted steamer should be carefully place inside the pot until it submerges into the water that is boiling.

5. Remember to cover Your Pot: Don’t forget to cover the pot with the appropriate lid. This will help your peas to cook quickly and properly. Therefore, you should leave the peas in the pot so that the hot water and the steam cook the peas.

6. Wait 5-10 minutes for Peas to Cook: It’s time to wait. After you’ve waited about 5 – 10 minutes, you should remove the pot, and place it securely on a cooling rack. Be careful with the pot because it’s very hot.

7. Remove Peas from Pot: After you’ve removed the pot from the stove and put it up on a cooling rack, you can remove the netted steamer which has the peas from inside the pot. In this final stage of cooking peas , you could add some butter, little salt and pepper to season your healthy snap peas.
