Picture of Stylish Floating Wall Hat Rack
Everyone loves a good hat. Well atleast, everyone can appreciate a good hat. Personally, I love fedoras. I have always wanted one of the classic wood standing hat stands. But the lack of shopping expertise(and money) prevents me.

So i came up with this solution

Step 1: Tack it up!

Picture of Tack it up!
They key to this whole instructible is one thing!: Thumbtacks. Something may work for you, but i had these 3 hats on the floor, and had 3 thumbtacks, so it worked out.

So needed materials:
x Thumbstacks, where x= number of hats you need hanging
Hats, any hat, So far, this only works for fedoras, but let me know about other hats!

Unfortunately, my camera is currently refusing to focus on the tacks in my wall, i shall update asap, until then I will supply you with a stock photo.

Step 2: Let's get Tack-y!

This may take trial and error on your part.
I like even spacing between the hats as they hang, and the hats are all different in the brim, so i must have the tacks in certain spacing on certain spots. OCD, but easy to fulfill.

Anyways, tack up your wall.

Step 3: To Top Things Off!

This one is easy, add hat. Remember this simple equation to always get it right!:
a = x-b

where
a = number of hats not hung
x = number of hats
b = tacks in wall

Step 4: Finir!

Well, I hope things have worked out well for you!

I'm very satisfied with where we are. Good luck in your life.  See ya next time.

Edit:
Got a couple new hats, just thought I'd show you how i update my wall.
Oh... I think I got the equation wrong... a = x - b + s½

With s = number of scarves hanging on the wall...

:)

Love the idea, I have baseball style caps packed away so I'll drag them out and show them off now.
If the hats are just for show, charity shops might be an option for finding affordable ones. (If you visit often and get friendly with the staff they might even put them aside for you).

Happy Hat hanging and hunting.
can i ask where you get your fedoras and the average price? (i love them but havnt found one at a price where it is necessarily worth it for me)

Well, my favorite one(the greenish one on the bottom of the first picture.) I got from a gas station that had a rack of them. All the other ones i think just came from Walmart. All of them were around $10. Definitely worth it.

Don't be afraid to customize any cheapo you stumble upon. My only problem with getting more is that the stores i go to go through odd periods of selling completely crappy hats. Recently they got some decent ones, but I don't have the money(Very sad when you dont have the $10 for a good hat) to get more.
this is ace mate! did this for my dorm :D thanks for the idea!
