Submarine Candle Holder

This is a tea light candle holder that is inspired by the submarine from the Battleship game. The submarine was my favorite piece in the game. Sure, it had the same number of holes as the cruiser and wasn't as frustrating as the destroyer, but it could go under water!

OK, fine, that had no tactical advantage in the game. I still liked it and I'm sticking with that.

So now, years later, I have found myself with hundreds of tea lights in my house and in need of a holder.  So of course it had to be a custom job and here we are. Maybe one day I'll make the complete set.

Step 1: Parts

Here are the supplies and tools I used to make these:

 - 1/4" plywood
 - Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Glue
 - stain
 - sandpaper
 - Epilog laser cutter (or saws and hole saws)

Step 2: Cut!

The cutting for me was extremely straightforward. Push the file to the laser cutter and the pieces magically get cut.

Alternatively, the same files can be printed out on paper and used as a template for cutting by hand.

Step 3: Glue!

This step is also very straightforward as this is just a simple stack of pieces. I did this in 3 steps:

1. Use Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Glue on the small tower pieces and clamp it
2. Glue on the body pieces and clamp it
3. Glue the two main pieces together and clamp it

And there you have it! the sub is built!

But not done yet.

Step 4: Sand and Stain

Get out the sandpaper to clean up the sides of the plywood. 

With everything nice and smooth, clean it up with a damp rag to get rid of the dust and apply a couple coats of your favorite stain.

Step 5: Add Candles and Set Sail!

That's it, just drop in a few tea lights and light 'em up!
