Introduction: Sugar-Free Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie

The summer craze for cool drinks has food chains and beverage companies offering a variety of frozen lemonade blends and while fruit is good for you the added sugar is not. Healthy eating people deserve tasty treats too! My family likes our frozen drinks simple, tasty, and natural and strawberry lemonade smoothies are our favorite! Hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Step 1: Pre-Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 heaping cup frozen strawberries
1/8 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup water
1 tsp sweetener
1 sugar-free vanilla yogurt cup
3 ice cubes

Equipment:

1  mini blender,
1 spoon or something to stir with and,
1 cold glass (possibly with straws) to put your finished smoothie in.

Step 2: Blending

The rule of blending a good smoothie is to add ingredients in a specific order so your blender doesn't clog. This order is: start with the liquid, then the solid.

That being said we want to add the lemon juice and water first. Since there's so little sweetener we want to go ahead and add it  so it will be distributed evenly (if there was a lot of dry ingredients you would add them after the solids). Next, add the yogurt. Finally, add the frozen strawberries. Now you need to add ice to make the smoothie a bit weaker.

Once everything is added, you're ready to go. So flip the switch, press the button or whatever your machine needs to get going. Depending on the quality of your blender you may have to stop and stir before you reach the desired consistency.

Step 3: Finishing Touches

Once your smoothie has reached the desired consistency you're ready to serve it. Whether you use a fancy cup or that random disposable thing you can throw away later, you want to put the cup in the freezer first so your smoothie doesn't melt as quick (plus it just looks prettier).

Add your straws or spoons and maybe even a sprig of mint or slice of lemon to the top/edge.( I added a cute little strawberry for decoration) Yay, we're done--it's smoothie time!

Would it taste the same if you just added plain old sugar?

I just bought my first bag of Stevia and am using it to make lemonade. I see you have a Stevia that says "in the raw". Does that mean that it doesn't have maltedextrose to make it look like sugar and to let you measure it like sugar? Because I use almost a cup of my Stevia with an equal amount of sugar and 1.5 cups of lemon juice and 8 cups of water. If I used a spoonful of sweetener as you do in this recipe, it would have almost no effect.

I'd make it without the lemon juice. Anyway, it looks so tasty!

ignore the random kitchen ingredients in the background. lol, no ketchup needed!
