A few days ago my friend Andrea kindly sent me 2 packages of Sugru, along with 2 trivets made by him as gift!

I must admit that I had no idea what Sugru was until a few months ago when I saw it in many projects on Instructables...and wow, I was amazed by all the things that it seemed to be able to do!
For this reason, I was very excited when I got it in the mail and I couldn't wait to try it!!

But what could I do with it? I had seen so many examples around the web, I wanted to make something different.

So, here is my idea: 2 different kinds of mini potholders! 2 instructables in 1! :D

Step 1: What You Need

2 little packages of Sugru*
colored cotton threads
your hands!

Optional:

parchment paper
pen/pencil
cutter

*the colors of Sugru are casual, you can use whatever color you like! (same with threads)

Step 2: The Red Potholder

Take a Sugru package and cut all around it to open it.
Note: try to work your Sugru as fast as possible because it dries very quickly!

Work your Sugru with your hands making a cylinder.
Lay your cylinder on a table - I recommend placing a piece of parchment paper first, this way Sugru won't stick to the table.
Now press your Sugru cylinder with your fingers to create a rectangle, about 3x5cm (1.18 x 1.96 inches).

Gently curve your Sugru rectangle as if you wanted to join the 2 shortest sides together (but DON'T do it!).
Try to create a "wave" folding the shortest edges up again: you can lay it on a pen or pencil to keep it in shape while Sugru is still soft.
Finally, make a hole in one of its angles using a pencil, this way you will be able to hang your potholder once it's dry.

Remove the pen after a couple of hours so that your Sugru won't stick to it!
Let it dry overnight...

Your first mini potholder is ready to be used! :)

Step 3: The Blue Potholder - Part 1

Take your second Sugru package and open it, just like you did before.

Create a cylinder and press it a little with your fingers, as you can see in the pictures.
Cut it in half using a cutter.
Now you have 2 pieces of Sugru, one for your forefinger, the other one for your thumb.

Take your first piece, create another cylinder and press it: it must be long enough for it to cover the tip of your finger.
So, roll your piece of Sugru around it then press its ends and top to close it.

You have just created a little finger cap!

Take your other piece of Sugru and create another little cap!

Step 4: The Blue Potholder - Part 2

Now you have 2 caps to cover your fingers with but they are so small that they can easily be lost...
So I thought that it was be best to join them together. You will also be able to hang them this way.
You can use whatever method you like, I thought it would be nice to make a braid with threads!

To do this, you need 3 cotton threads, I used a light blue thread and 2 dark blue ones.
Mine are 7cm long (2.75 inches), you can make them longer or shorter, depending on your own taste.
Place your 3 threads next to each other and make a knot leaving about 1cm (0.39 inches) from one of the two ends.

Make a simple braid starting from the knot, until you reach the other end of the threads.
Make another knot to secure, always leaving about 1cm from the end.

Now place one end of your braid on the inside of your finger cap and press the threads with your finger.
Stick the other braid end to the other cap, just like you did before.

You are done!!
Let it dry overnight and try it! :)
