I'm a full time researcher and writer who began seeking alternative housing in order to continue my work (which doesn't pay very well). Along the way I became a cold weather housing researcher and full time yurtmaker in Alaska. Our Gertee project has been online since we started living in our homemade, recycled materials models in 2007. We're currently embarking on a Home 4 Life outreach campaign to assist homeless vets and teenagers in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley..
Many thanks to the people here who used our instructables to build their own gertees out of local materials where they live. It's been wonderful to see how many people were inspired to make their own! There's a million different ways to build and decorate homemade huts, we've learned a lot from other posters at this site, and each one really is as unique as the owner and the purpose for which it is built.
