Super Cool Dowsing Rods!!!!!!!

This is an instructable on how to make dowsing rods.You use them to find things underground.Me and my dad used it to find our old water line and it was right on top of it.they work like metal detectors and can help to keep you from spending lots of money on professional ones.

Step 1: Step 1:What youll need

You'll need:

1.36" of #4 Copper wire is the best but Anything bigger than
#10 copper will work.

2.20" of wire that you can wrap easily around the #4 copper

wire.

3.a hole and some whatever to put in it.(an old book,pvc
pipe,Wire,etc.)

4.some pliers.(if using #4 copper or bigger copper)

People have been fooling themselves for years with these things, from sticks, to coat hangers and even crystals on a string. Isint it amazing how these things can find anything? Dead people (woo) Water, dirt, air, your dog, the sky. How do these work you asked? It's called the ideomotor effect, and it's you doing the "working" you just do not realize it. Dear tyty100, I mean no offence, but this only promotes the problem, people actually charge money to "find" water, gold, silver etc and people pay for it. These fail double blind tests EVERY time, I wish it were not true but it seems to be that way. I hope you are the lucky/talented one who can disprove this, take the $1,000,000 challange. One of the first thing you learn in science at the University level is that you can not prove anything at most you can disprove a thing. If you can not disprove a thing then it stands that it might be the truth or close it if repeatable. No one has proven that an all powerful being or intelligence is at work in the Universe yet every culture has a religion and a belief in some higher being no matter what they call it. No not everyone believes in an all powerful force in the universe but 3/4 of the earths population does especially in those less developed area's. IF in 6500 years of recorded human history no one has been able to prove that an all powerful being is at work in the Universe what hope does anyone have of proving coat hangers bent into an L do anything?

On top of this the "magic" which I hate that word because magic is science or technology that we can not yet explain or manipulate on command yet. Maybe it is the human that is the tool and the bent metal rod is just a prop to allow the person some plane of reference for what his senses are picking up from the environment. People want to make it sound like ideomotor effect is some how lame or not good enough. Personally I think only a small mind would fail to see how amazing this is. If through the process of ideomotor phenomenon a person is able to locate objects that he or she can not see with their eye's, hear with their ear's. smell or taste the real phenomenon is not making the stupid bent rod move but knowing when to make the bent rod move which is something unknown to the person using the dowsing rods. The rods could be anything the real issue is how does the person know when to make the rods cross. What is guiding their intuition which like wise cannot be proven to exist yet is accepted as a factual piece of the human mind by medicine. Why are some people "lucky" why are some people " really good at guessing".

So any attempt to remove the man or human from the experiment will always fail because the rods are just props. The needle on a meter has no bearing on the circuit itself if you remove the needle from a gauge but leave all the other parts in tact it still functions but you the human have no idea what the reading is. The needle is not part of the circuit it is their to allow you the human to see what the resistors, diodes and transformers are registering it is simply an indicator.

Also like anything some people are absolutely with out any talent for this type of thing while other's exceed the law of averages. So even if the user is moveing the rods that is not the issue who cares what is moving the rods what one should be looking at is how does the person that is more often right then wrong know "when" to move the rods.

VERY GOOD i love learning something like that. to be honest i have never even considered that that is how these work i always just guessed that it was magnetic or something. i actually tried these with plastic from a project (which i might post on instructables). they would move fine in my hands, gave them a try and they didnt work. and i wasnt doubting that they wouldnt work with plastic coat hangers i really believed they would but they wouldnt when the copper ones would. these also work with willow branches too maybe it is something linked to your body sensing and the rods moving , the rods need to be made of a natural substance? there is no doubt to me that these work and i have proven these many times to skeptics and it has always fascinated everyone. the idea that the dowsing rods are an indicator of what are body already senses makes alot of sense and i will explain these to people like you said. thanks alot!

Copper is not magnetic at all so plastic should work. Many people use plastic handles for their copper rods. A lot of people take a pen body and cut regular coat hanger bend them and insert them into the pen body. I use Brass rods but Brass is just an alloy of copper so again non-magnetic. I have some people use iron or steel rods as well. When people use pendulums often they are made from a stone they like so again not usually magnetic at all.

I do know that many people claim that they have to be bent as close to 90 degree's as possible I doubt you could get a good bend that would stay put with plastic coat hanger's.

Also they where first made from wood 1000+ years ago and worked fine so I think they are not too picky about material but very picky about the bends. If you think it makes a difference it will. So if you think it has to be a magnetic substance then it does your mind is the key. This is why I say the human element is the most important . Keep at it the more you use them the better you get. I think the ideomotor effect is perfectly acceptable and not a reason or proof that they do not work if anything I think it is proof that the human body is doing all the work and the rods are just their to give you feedback you see. Some people after many many years of doing sowsing do it with no tools at all they learn to listen to what their body is telling them.

I am going to have my son use this for his 5th grade science project.. We just tried it out side with a coat hanger and it DID work ! Thank you for explaining it and giving us the idea. ;)

I've seen this Randi guy's videos. He just insults people. He's not exactly unbiased. He's just sour and unhappy.
I've been doing this for years. I used to dig up water pipes for a living, and we'd always use the "guess and probe" method. Since I always had to put the grass back, it was a lot of work. One customer was watching me and showed me how to do this. He didn't tell me what was going to happen, just handed me the bent coathangers and told me to walk over where I thought the pipe was. I was skeptical, but watching for a dip, like the treebranch thing. The coathangers surprised the hell out of me by coming together over the pipe, they even align with the pipe (if you're walking over a pipe at an angle, one hanger will swing far, the other will swing shy).
I don't think I'm magical, I have taught many people to do this. No magic involved. Just because I can't explain it doesn't mean it's not working. We humans are far from knowing everything. The earth has been round for more than just the last few centuries since we could prove it!

I use brazeing rods for mine,they work really well,alot of people dont believe,but Ive proven it  dozens of times to customers as well as freinds.My father taught me how to read them,and made a believer out of me,because as a youngster thought it was a crock.

in my experience it is a transfer of energy. Everything has energy (rocks, plants, animals, humans, water, fire, everything) your own energy reconizes the energy of the item you are looking for. for instance: If Someone was to bury an Arrowhead and rake it over a 10 foot area and you went with your dousing rods to find it. you think, or say, "Arrowhead" and your energy "looks" for the arrowhead's energy. When you pass over the arrowhead the rods cross. if you were to pass over it again saying something completely different like "car" the rods will not cross, because your "energy" doesn't reconize the Arrowhead with a car's "energy".

Kenbob, don't knock it till you try it! This actually does work to find buried pipes in the ground, metal or plastic. Try it where you have a known pipe in the ground, lets say a lawn sprinkler line, that you know where it is. Hold the rods loosely in your hands, parallel to the ground and pointed directly ahead of you. Stand about 10 feet from where you know the pipe is and walk slowly toward the sprinkler line. As you approach the line you will see the rods start to point towards each other and come together, when you are directly above the line, they will cross at 90 degrees. This will not find water, bend spoons, do magic or predict the future, so I guess it will not win a million dollar prize either, but it will work! Have Fun!

its kinda creepe how it works and u can use this to find lots of things including water dead people (cementary) and landmines!
