Super Easy CHERRY COBBLER (aka 'Dump Cake'):

"Oh, I need a dessert for the company pot luck."  Or, "What am I going to take to the Church Social?"  

To the rescue comes this fast and easy Cherry Cobbler with only 5 ingredients; affectionately known as "Dump Cake".  So named because the main ingredients are all just dumped into the baking pan; and the results are extraordinary.  This stuff is addictive, drawing 2nd and 3rd servings from those fortunate enough to partake....   You've got to try this!

Step 1: Ingredients:

1 - Packaged Cake Mix, Yellow or White
1 - 21 oz. can of Cherry Pie Filling
1 - 20 oz. can of Crushed Pineapple
1 - Stick (1/4 lb.) Butter, refrigerated
1 - Cup Chopped Pecans

Step 2: Utensils:

Cake Pan, 9 x 13 inch
Can opener
One Cup measuring cup
Sharp knife
Cutting Board  
Hot Pads
Cooling Rack
Pancake turner

Step 3: Dump the Cherry Pie Filling into the Pan

Open the can of Cherry Pie Filling and dump the contents into the 9 by 13 baking pan.  Use the spatula to get every last sweet bit.

[ Preheat oven to 350ºF ]

Step 4: Dump the Crushed Pineapple into the Pan

Open the can of Crushed Pineapple and dump it into the pan.  Do NOT drain it, dump the entire contents including the juice into the pan. Use the spatula to get out every last drop. :-)

Step 5: Mix together

Take the spatula or a spoon and mix the cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple together in the baking pan until they are well mixed.  Made sure the mixture is evenly distributed and level in the baking pan.

Step 6: Sprinkle on the Cake Mix

Carefully sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the cherry pineapple mixture in the baking pan.  Do NOT mix in.

Gently smooth and level the mix so it is evenly distributed over the surface of the mixture.  Made sure the cake mix meets the edge of the pan on all sides.

Step 7: Top with Sliced Butter

Take the 1/4 pound stick of butter out of the refrigerator and use the sharp knife to slice it into thin pads, about 1/16 of an inch thick.
Layer the pads of butter evenly over the entire surface of the cake mix.  There will be gaps between the pads.

Step 8: Sprinkle on 1 Cup Chopped Pecans

Take the sharp knife and chop up the pecans into a size to your liking.  Sprinkle 1 Cup of chopped Pecans evenly over the 'buttered' surface of the mixture. 

Step 9: Bake at 350ºF for 45 Minutes to 1 Hour

Place the pan of prepared mixture into the preheated oven and Bake at 350ºF for 45 minutes to one hour until top is golden brown.

Step 10: Cool, Serve and Enjoy!

Use hot pads to remove the pan of Cherry Cobbler from the oven and onto a cooling rack.  Cool slightly.   Use the Pancake turner to cut out squares and serve warm. 

Vanilla ice cream goes very well with this dessert.

Step 7 talks about the butter, which is essential. And Step 9 talks about baking time and temperature. Make sure you are viewing all 10 steps. Sorry it did not turn out. Good luck on your next attempt, it is very much worth it!

Where does the butter come in and how long do you cook it? Mine sure didn't look like yours, mine was just a bunch of hot powdery cake mix on top of fruit stuck under the powder. FAIL! I surely missed something.

I love dump cake! I think I might need to make some this weekend with peaches and pineapple. :D
