This is a white oak box that I made. The handle twists and reveals a small hole. When you put a toothpick into the hole and push it moves the lock and allows the box to open.
The constant shifting photos make it harder to read the comments which change before I can even mouse over the comments. the pause doesn't let me continue to next frame one at a time and over all is very confusing. I'd rather click on each photo to see as I desire.
I think a pair of magnets hidden e.g. in the table top, or a book could activate the catches in the box when placed in the correct position. This would make ir really difficult to solve, but perhaps the rule here to make everything of wood. I like the idea anyway.
Very nicely done! One thing to improve it.... if you used a mortise for the hinges and screwed them into the top of the sides, you would not be able to get into the box by removing the hinges....LOL Or, you could use barrel hinges, too.
I will have to make one like this when I get back to my shop!
where is the INSTRUCTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very nice creation! Can you please post some more information or a picture of how the lock works? I can't really see how the part you push with the toothpick can move.
I don't think you understand gmjhowe....only one hole is functional but drill a 5x5 grid of holes (or however many you'd like). This way somebody might just think its an air vent or something. You could even use a stencil and lay the holes out in a pattern, that way nobody would be the wiser...you'd just see a bunch of holes that create maybe a smiley face for example.
I have a puzzle box similar to this that has a fake latch on it, you should put one on. what I mean is, there is a small notch all the way around the box about 1/2 inch down and about 2mm wide to make it appear there is a lid right there. there is also a latch attached over the notch to complete the illusion. The real lid to the box is a small piece of wood in the top, which is slid off by a switch in the bottom disguised as the feet of the box.
