These are the steps to making a multi-colored survival bracelet.
Step 1
Tie the two colors, that together equal about 6ft, into a square knot
Step 2
Begin the braiding process
Step 3
Undo the square knot so that there are two pieces that stick out
Step 4
Melt down both ends

couldn't you just splice the paracord by pulling 1-2 inches of the inner strands out of one color, cutting them off, and then putting the other color inside? it seems to me like that would make a cleaner transition between colors.

You can also fuse the two cords together. The fuse should be in the core somewhere, about 1-1/2 inches before the end loop. Here's what mine looks like; you can see the (shiny) fuse mark peeking out of the middle. The black cord starts there while the orange cord goes out to make the loop and comes back through.

Secure both ends of center cord firmly or you get twists along length of project. Also, i use a hot-knife to cut and burn cord. it gives a neater, more snag free end if done right.
