These sweet bite-sized desserts are deliciously deceptive, appearing at first glance to resemble miniature hamburger "sliders."

Easy to make, highly customizable and fun to flip the expectations of your guests with an even yummier novelty.

Step 1: You Will Need:

Start with a batch of basic yellow cake (this one is a slightly modified Martha Stewart recipe):

8 tbsp Butter
1 & 1/4 cups All-Purpose Flour (sifted)
3/4 cup Granulated White Sugar
1 & 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 Large Eggs
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1/8 tsp Salt
1/2 cup Milk

You will also need:

1 tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 tbsp Poppy or Sesame Seeds
2-3 Kiwis
4-5 Large Strawberries

24 toothpicks
Coconut or Canola Oil (for coating the pans)

Step 2: Blending Batter

Mix together your cake batter from the recipe in step 1, starting with the dry ingredients and then adding the wet ones.

Once thoroughly whipped until smooth, separate one third of the batter and set aside.

Step 3: Cupcake Buns

Take the larger (2/3) portion of cake batter and divide amongst two miniature cupcake trays, then sprinkle with either poppy or sesame seeds and bake at 325 for approximately 12 minutes.

Step 4: Chocolate Burgers

Now take the 1/3 portion of the batter that you set aside earlier and mix in a tablespoon of cocoa powder, then divide that into 24 as well.

This will make very tiny half-size miniature cupcakes.

Once cooked, set aside all of your "bun" and "burger" cupcakes to cool.

Step 5: Fruit Slices

Take a few fresh strawberries and a couple of kiwis and slice 24 nice rounds of each.

These are your "condiments."

You might have noticed some peaches in one of the photos, but they were bad inside - they would have represented orange cheese slices had I been able to use them. Feel free to substitute other fruits like mango or raspberries according to your taste.

Step 6: Stack 'Em

Take your chilled yellow cupcakes with the poppy seed tops and slice them neatly in half laterally. These are your buns.

Stack starting with your "bottom bun" and first add a slice of strawberry, then the chocolate cupcake, then a slice of kiwi and lastly the "top bun." Secure them all with a toothpick or plastic skewer / cocktail fork.

Step 7: Serve With Style

Sliders already make great appetizers and now with these sweet similes in your arsenal you've got an even more unique way to please pretty much any crowd.

Of course you can make these with regular full-size cupcake trays as well and experiment with different toppings to add variety and personal flare.
