It nearly impossible to find any low calorie treats at the local stores, so I did some experimenting and came up with this recipe. It's low cal and easy to make. I dirty very few utensils, and I can bake it outside so I don't heat up the house. No need to roll it out on the cabinet or cut it up, then place it on the cookie sheets. Just mix it in the bowl and roll out on the cookie sheet. Can't get much better than that.

These are not as sweet as the average cookie or cake, but they are sweeter than Hawaiian Bread. I have been making these for about a year as round cookies, but decided to cut them into strips to make the job faster and easier.

Step 1: Utensils & Ingredients

UTENSILS USED

A 1 Cup measuring cup

A 3/4 Cup measuring cup

A large mixing bowl, the larger the better.

A Pastry Blender

2 large cookie sheets (or use 1 sheet twice) I use the aluminum insulated cookie sheets so they don't burn on the bottom.

Rolling Pin

A Pizza Cutter

INGREDIENTS

5¾ Cups Self Rising Flour

¾ Cup Canola Oil or Butter.

1 can of Carnation or WM's Great Value Condensed Milk

¾ to 1 cup water or milk

Step 2: MIX DRY INGREDIENTS

Add 5 cups flour with the 1 cup measure.
Add another 3/4 cup with the 3/4 cup measure.

Add 3 cups Splenda or Walmart's Great Value Sweetener. You can wipe out the 1 cup measure & put it back in the cabinet. It's still clean.

Mix the dry ingredients thoroughly.

Step 3: ADD OIL & BLEND

Add 3/4 cup canola oil or butter to the dry ingredients.

Blend it in with a pastry blender until it looks like grains of rice.

Step 4: ADD CONDENSED MILK

Add the Condensed Milk & fold in until its well mixed.

Add water and fold it in until it is a sticky mess.

Lightly sift flour over the top of the dough ball. Pull it away from the sides, sift more flour until you can handle the ball without it sticking to the bowl and your hands.

Step 5: ROLL OUT & SLICE IT

Cut the ball in half & lay half of it on the coolie sheet.

Roll it to 3/8" thick. My favorite rolling pin is a 1" PVC pipe about 15" long. Slice it into strips 1/2" wide with the pizza cutter, but don't separate the strips.

Step 6: BAKE

I bake outside in the summer to keep the house cooler. Bake at 350 degrees for 18 minutes. Let it cool and snap the pieces apart. They usually don't last long enough to freeze, but if they do, I store then in Plastic bags in the freezer. To get rid of more of the calories, use milk instead of condensed milk & the water. Try this, it's fast & easy and has very few calories, and best of all, they are great with morning coffee or milk.
