Renovating a piece of home décor makes it fun and easy to add new flavor to any space in your home. I was inspired by designer Mark Montano to renovate my old switch plate in my bedroom and turning it into an artful creation! Whether you're into using modern art, like Picasso or Jackson Pollock, or contemporary art, like Cindy Sherman or Nan Goldin, this home decorating idea will sure to leave you with a fun masterpiece!

PS: The inspiration came from Mark Montano's "The Big Ass Book of Crafts".

Step 1: Materials

To revamp your switch plate, you will need...

 • a copy of your favorite artwork (I'm using a copy of Girl Before a Mirror by Pablo Picasso; that was a piece of artwork that I grew up with)

 • a switch plate (you can use the one that you currently have at home or get a new one from a hardware store)

 • a screw driver

 • Mod Podge

 • pencil

 • scissors

 • sponge brush

 • spray adhesive
 • X-acto knife
 • ruler (optional)

Step 2: Remove the Switch Plate

First, you want to remove your switch plate by unscrewing it off of your wall with a screw driver.

Step 3: Add Artwork

Using your old (or new) switch plate, trace it around a copy of a piece of artwork printed using your computer, and cut out. Then, use your X-acto knife to cut corners from the image to make it easier to wrap around the switch plate. At that point, spray on some spray adhesive and attach the image to your switch plate. Make sure to also cut away any holes for the switch and screws.

Step 4: Mod Podge

Then, use Mod Podge to apply to the switch plate. Add another layer of Mod Podge to seal. Let dry between coats. In the end, your switch plate will come out with a nice, shiny look!

Step 5: Admire Your New Plate!

Then, just replace the switch plate on the wall, screw it back in place, and you're done! Now, this museum-worthy of a switch plate is ready to be admired by friends and family as they first step through your bedroom door!

While browsing the category, yours and one other instructable were my inspiration for decorating a couple of receptacle covers. Although mine is a bit more industrial in appearance, I like what you have created.

Great way to pretty up old, yucky switch plate! I would have also painted the toggle to blend with the artwork :-)
